londonray Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 hey wonderful people at this forum, i'm going to NYC this fall with my fiancee (our first trip after getting engaged!). I'm new to PL and would like someone to help me come up with a bidding strategy. TIA! We are looking at the following areas to stay in: CPS, Chelsea, ESB, Hell's kitchen, MSG, MTE, MTW and Times Sq. Can consider UES and UWS if close to metro/subway since we would be using that to explore all over the city.Budget is hopefully below $100 but can go up to $120 for a 4* (after all taxes and fees). I hope that's reasonable for sept which i read is a VERY busy time of the year for NYC. Thank you very much once again!
AaronJB Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding and congrats on getting enagaged! :)Unfortunately, these are definitely expensive dates for NYC, with 4*'s at $300-400+ regular rate. $120 for a 4* would unfortunately be unlikely, and $120 for a 3* may be difficult, as well - $120 "all-in" (with taxes/fees included) would seem unlikely. You could try bidding up to your max in your desired zones for a 3*, but given rates, I'm guessing it may take higher than $120 + taxes/fees for a 3* in Midtown zones. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
londonray Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks for the quick reply. What if i included UES and UWS?
thereuare Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Thanks for the quick reply. What if i included UES and UWS?It couldn't hurt... but it's not likely to help either, as sub-$100 (which is what your bid would need to be even to end up at $120 all-in) is only available during the absolute slowest times in NYC... and this time of year isn't one of them.If it's your first trip to NYC i would try to stay within Manhattan if your budget allows... if not, i would look at Jersey City (only the waterfront hotels, which unfortunately will also be more than $100 for these dates), then Long Island City (not my favorite but some convenient hotels to the subway) or Secaucus/Meadowlands (some hotels convenient to mass transit into the city)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll try to help accordingly. londonray Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Thanks so much for the prompt reply. Fortunately or unfortunately, i've managed to snag a studio along W51st and 9th Ave for $95/nite all in on craigslist. Hope i'm not being rude by stating this. Just wanted to tell everyone what the outcome was in this case. I'll still be trying for a nice hotel in boston though. Please do help me with that one.... Cheers!Raymond
