SFO - San Fran car rental

I'm still trying to bid on a car with Priceline from 07/27/10-07/30/10 from SFO.

The prices are just insane. I'm bidding $40/day and Priceline is telling me that if I bid $54 they will get me a car.

Should I just bite the bullet and go for this deal or do you think I can still get it cheaper than $54???

I'm not sure why rates are so high for these dates and nobody can say if rates will come down... or go even higher in the next 2 weeks. However, the best rates i'm currently able to find is ~$75/day and that is with a tier 2/3 compnay (ACE, Payless, etc)... best rate from one of the 'majors' is $95/day.

I'd be inclined to take the $54... although do note that you can probably undercut this by a few dollars if you want to gradually increase your bidding over the next few days (with the risk being that while you continue to bid over the course of a few days the $54 rate may disappear and no longer be available 2-3 days from now)
