vas201 Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 Hello again guys,I am considering the Westin TS which is priced at $276 per night thru their "last night on us" promotion. This is for 2 double beds, 4 adults.Do you think I can do better thru HOTWIRE?Thanks for your help once again.
thereuare Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 I'm assuming that $276/nite rate is adjusted for the free nite?Let us know so we can comment based upon the correct rate, but in your reply let us know your thoughts about this as well...Would you be interested in 2 rooms via PRICELINE at a 3.5* or 4* hotel for about the same price? Even though i'm a fan of the Westin Times Square, personally i would likely prefer 2 rooms for double occupancy each vs. one room for quad occupancy (even if it meant lowering to the 3.5* level)... just more comfortable, the extra bathroom (vs. one bathroom for 4 people) makes getting ready to go out for the day easier, etc.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. vas201 Posted July 10, 2010 Author Report Posted July 10, 2010 Yes the rate includes the promotion.I would definitely consider 2 rooms for a similar price.
thereuare Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 So if you wanted to pursue the option of 2 rooms it would be thru PRICELINE, if you go to PRICELINE and look at their zone boundaries, which zones would you be willing to accept? Generally speaking at the 4* level the MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB zones work fine for the average user. (if you decide to try for a 3.5* i'll add some comments regarding these zones as well as adding MSG)Are all of these zones acceptable at the 4* level? How high would you be willing to to for 2 rooms at the 4* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. vas201 Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 All areas mentioned including MSG are fine.I guess anything under $300 per night would do. I attempted a 3.5 in MSG earlier and went up to $110 per room with no luck.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thereuare Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 I guess anything under $300 per night would do.I assume you mean $150 per nite per room... for 2 rooms, correct?I think you have a better chance at the 3.5* level than at the 4* level, but let's at least try 4* first and then, if rejected, we can suggest a 3.5* strategy (as noted above, at the 3.5* level you may not necessarily want to bid these same zones due to some 'nuances' with some hotels in each zone at that star level). To try for 4*:At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. vas201 Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 No luck with above strategy.Ready to try 3.5 star.Which areas are to be avoided?
thereuare Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Well, not necessarily "you need to avoid these zones" but some information you should be aware of so you can make a decision...In the CPS zone is the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards). In the MTE zone is the Millenium UN which is a bit far each and about a 15 minute walk to the subway. Other than these aspects, each of these hotels generally get good reviews, so you should decide if either/both/neither are acceptable to you and determine if you want to include these zones in your bidding or not.Let us know (or ask any questions you have) and we'll advise accordingly. Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board for your bidding. vas201 Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 I was not very succesful with my bidding this time around.Decided to use my Aeroplan miles and booked 3 nights (2 double beds) at the Sheraton Times Square and 1 night at the Westin (2 double beds) .Will be tight with 2 teenagers but we should manage as we don't normally spend much time in the room. Thanks for your help and suggestions.Talk to you on my next trip.Regards
