opirox Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I need help bidding for a 3.5* or 4* San Francisco Hotel.I don't care much about the area, as long as it is close to the center. So far I have searched for a week in the following areas: USW, USE, SOMA, FD, FW (all that have 3.5* and up)My bidding history was something like this:4* 80$ USW4* 84$ + SOMA4* 88$ + FD4* 91$ + USE4* 96$ + FW3.5* 70$ 3.5* 75$ + South SF (no higher than 3*)3.5* 77$ + Marina (no higher than 2*)All rejected so far. Am I bidding to low or do I just have to wait a while and keep trying?/edit: Sorry, the date should read "9/4/10-9/7/10" (I am not used to US notation :) ). Can someone change that please?
thereuare Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is no telling if rates will come down from current levels... or go up... between now and your stay. I'm guessing your bids are just missing and perhaps another $10 (maybe as much as $15) at either star level would be enough for a win. Do you want to bid higher at this point or stick with your current maximum bids?Either way let us know and we'll suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow as you can improve upon the current approach your using. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. opirox Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 I would be happy to get a hotel within one month from now, so I am not really under pressure. Therefore if the "experts" say that I have good chances of getting the room, I'll stick to my bidding strategy and keep trying. If I was completely off, I would appreciate any suggestions! In general, I don't want to spend more than 95$ on the room per day and I would like to get the best possible room for that. Whether it is 4* or 3.5* does not really make a difference to me. Of course I would prefer to pay less if its "only" 3.5* ;-)So what should I do? Stick to my plan and bid every day or change my strategy?
thereuare Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I don't see any major conferences over these dates so i'd be inclined to wait just a bit and see if anything comes up within the next two weeks as you appear flexible enough in zones and star rating that if demand starts to pick up you can increase your bidding higher at that time.Assuming at the 4* level you're bidding USW, USE, SOMA, FD... and at the 3.5* level you're bidding these same zones but including FW, i'd bid as follows:At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones... at the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* USE and USW and FD...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* SOMA...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* USW, USE, SOMA, FD...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $93, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINEI'd only bid every other day at this point... bidding every day you'll likely get frustrated a little too quickly. Also, at this point i'd stick with the 4* level for a few weeks... then consider increasing your bid and/or try for the 3.5* level.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and keep us updated along the way.
