meisos Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Hi All,Been reading the forums over the last few days and think I now have my head around how best to approach bidding on Priceline.I'm currently going to be in NYC with my wife, 15-20th Sept 2010. I understand this to be a pretty busy period in the city and am hoping to snag a good deal. From analysing the 2009 Sept-Oct season, I can see that a good deal for a 4* would be around the $200 (ex tax) give or take $20.So, based on this, I'm hoping to try and get a 4* in MTE, MTW or ESB for $200 (though I understand this may be a bit low after reviewing similar prices on Hotwire)So my questions are:- Do you think this is reasonable? - Do you think I will have to split out the stay to get a deal for this price? Thanks for any input!
thereuare Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are a bit high, and my guess is that at the moment $200 for a 4* may be a little bit of a stretch, but its worth giving a try.I do think that SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID may help you a little, as the Wed-Friday is a bit more expensive than the Fri-Mon part of your stay. If splitting your stay is an option, you may want to consider staying in different areas of the city for each leg... if you have any plans to visit Downtown you may want to stay there (as it's usually a little cheaper than midtown) Wed-Friday and then more to midtown for the weekend nites of your stay. However, even with splitting, i think you'll need to be very close to or a little over your current $200 target.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. meisos Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 Thanks for the response really appreciate your effort.I found a promotion for the Affinia 50 via TravelZoo for Sept 15-17 for $199 (ex tax) a night. Do you reckon it might be a good idea to book that as a backup and then concentrate on finding a deal for 18-20 via Priceline?
thereuare Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Yes, if the $199 rate is fully refundable i would use that as a back-up.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
