bschnuck Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Can anyone help me identify what hotel/condo it is that Hotwire is showing as a 3* in Kapalua for May 29th - June 2? Thanks
bschnuck Posted March 3, 2005 Author Report Posted March 3, 2005 We are going to Maui and would like to book a Resort in Kannapali for May 29th through June 2nd. Tried last night, started at $150 went to $160 using the 3 free rebid zones and got rejected each time. I've seen people get the Sheraton, Westin, and Hyatt for that price range on this website and another (which i dont like nearly as much, but has info). We are going to make a backup reservation, but, can you recommend a different strategy or should we just try again in 72 hours. We would be willing to go to $170 on our bids. Thanks for your help.
LoneStar Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 have you looked at the priceline packages feature to determine which hotels might be available?Read the previous posts for guidance, but if the hotels aren't popping up on the packages search at a logical price -- and you're not getting them on the "standard bids" -- that means they're not currently available. You can fiddle around with the dates (avoiding the problem ones) or you can wait. Kaanapali inventory is pretty erratic. The hotels really seem to use it to only dump excess inventory. Waiting will probably help -- your days should be very off peak.
bschnuck Posted March 4, 2005 Author Report Posted March 4, 2005 Sorry posted this is the Priceline forum...Can anyone help me identify what hotel/condo it is that Hotwire is showing as a 3* in Kapalua for May 29th - June 2? Thanks
bschnuck Posted March 6, 2005 Author Report Posted March 6, 2005 I'm posting another message in hope of getting some expert advise. We are going to Maui May 29th through June 2nd. We want to stay in a Kannapali Resort, and are willing to bid whatever that will take. When i search through the priceline packages, Sheraton Maui and the Hyatt come up up for 5/29 through 6/1, and on the bottom it gives a "median" resort price of $280, which seems in line. When I add 6/2, the Sheraton disappears (leaving only the Hyatt) and the average jumps to $365. We have time, i have seen these resorts go for $150-160, and like i said we are willing to pay whatever, but figured why not save a little money using what i've learned here. Do you think it would be beneficial for us to bid on the 5/29 - 6/1 dates and get whatever it is we get so we have that booked. We would be happy with either Resort. Then, just make a backup reservation for 1 night somewhere and continue bidding on our 6/1-6/2 stay until we get a decent price. Moving for 1 night would not bother us. Just interested in some expert advise. Thanks in advance for your help.
thereuare Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 Have you tried yet bidding for the 5/29-6/1 (without the nite of 6/1)?If not, you have two re-bid zones when bidding resort class properties in this zone. Select Resort and Ka'anapali zone and...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $160.Let us know what happens, or report back if you have already tried the above. bschnuck Posted March 6, 2005 Author Report Posted March 6, 2005 OK, did as you said, 5/29-6/1 bid 150,155,160 and no success. Any ideas?
thereuare Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 Raise each bid by $5... other than that book a cancellable back-up and continue to try for another 4-6 weeks. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bschnuck Posted March 7, 2005 Author Report Posted March 7, 2005 Thanks thereuare. Come Tuesday ill start at $160 and move forward. Is there a $$ where you think it's not worth me bidding up to? Should I stop at $180 or something until I get closer and we really need to book it? I see there is a 4.5* (Hyatt or Westin) resort on Hotwire for $225. Thats still less than any rack rate I will be able to get. Sorry. I dont know what happened, i posted those "hotwire" 3* questions in the hotwire section but i keep seeing them here.
thereuare Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 No, i would be bidding $155-$165 for the next month. You may have to go higher than that eventually, but i woudlnt' at this point as you have plenty of time. Book a cancellable back-up. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
LoneStar Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 Maui bidding seems to sometimes require near infinite patience. :) It's hard, but you "have" to do it. If fiddling with your dates doesn't help, wait. As I said earlier, your days should not be particularly busy, so something should open up (unless there's some big convention we don't know about -- you'd get an idea of that if the posted rates at the hotels were particularly high).I agree with thereuare. Hang in there and keep lowballing. If it's 3 weeks before your trip and you still don't have anything, then it's time to get more creative.
bschnuck Posted March 10, 2005 Author Report Posted March 10, 2005 The dates 5/30-6/2 there is a 4* Resort in Kaanapali for $183 but nothing that matches it in the packages section. Can you help me identify which resort this is? Also, on a side note, I have posted a few messages about this trip in the Priceline section, I have seen a 4* resort for $234 on hotwire all along while i have been looking. The actual dates of this trip are 5/29 - 6/2. It was $234 when i shopped for all the dates, when i removed the first date, it dropped to $183. Then when i search for only 5/29-5/30, the rate falls to $181 for the same hotel? Is it possible it updated right when i was searching? Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Please keep all of your posts for this stay in the same thread.Have you tried bidding again up to $165?A 4* Resort on HOTWIRE... there are probably many, please include all the amenities listed with the hotel (and if there are eight icons shown you'll need to click "view complete amenities and details" in order to see any amenities after the first eight) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bschnuck Posted March 10, 2005 Author Report Posted March 10, 2005 I'm sorry thereuare. Now I know. I just figured i needed to keep Hotwire seperate from PL.Anyway, here are the amenities:4* Resort in KaanapaliHotel, Resort, Beachfront, Restaruant, Pool, Fitness Center, Spa, Childrens' program, golf, Tennis, Business center, and laundry. Yeah i went to $172, just for the heck of it, and nothing. We have plenty of time to be patient here, but with $30 rebate (Entertainment Book) we could get using Hotwire we are within a few bucks of where we were bidding on PL and may be able to figure out where we are. Thanks thereuare
thereuare Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Best guess would be that this is the Sheraton. Please click THIS LINK before going to the Entertainment booking page if you decide to purchaset this.
