katharry Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Hi, you were all so helpful with the priceline San Francisco leg of my trip I was hoping you could advise me on what is the best area in Paris to bid using PRICELINE?My husband and I are there for 2 nights on Oct 3rd. We are fit and don't mind walking but would like to stay somewhere central (but I don't know where central is). Wanting a 4* hotel. We are arriving from London on the Eurostar.Any tips would be fabulous :)
Romelle Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 katharry,Maybe you could post which sights you hope to see in Paris in your 2-3 days?? That could help people make suggestions. The Eurostar terminates at Gare du Nord, but am not sure just which Priceline area that is. It is the in the 10th arrondissement. Romelle
katharry Posted June 24, 2010 Author Report Posted June 24, 2010 Thanks Romelle.I am keen to shop and eat in gorgeous cafes and bakeries! The Eiffel Tower yes but I plan to spend two days just wandering around soaking up the atmosphere.I guess that is not much help - sorry
Romelle Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I'm headed out on a trip this morning myself, so won't be able to follow up further for at least a day or so - until I find an internet cafe in Finland.Actually, your comments are helpful. Have you read the area descriptions when you start to bid on PRICELINE. For most of the seven areas, there is a nice compact paragraph that shows up when you hit the "detail map" button. If you don't get further chatter here, I think you would be able to make a selection just from that text. And I usually suggest people take a trip to their public libraries and get an arm load of guide books. Maybe even buy their favorite for the trip. Rick Steves has a particular nice one just on Paris. "Walking tours" in any of the guide books are good. Also, the hop-on, hop-off bus line can work well for a short stay.Have you learned you can click on the PRICELINE maps and expand them? Handy for reading street names and spotting Metro stops. On the other hand, maybe somebody else will jump in here?Romelle
thereuare Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I think most recommend the (St. Germain - Latin Quarter - Montparnasse) and (Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West) zones as being a good 'central' location. I enjoyed the Eiffel Tower area but many don't recommend it as some parts of the zone extend a little far from 'central'... so i'd start with these areas, along with a gameplan of what sights you'd like to see, and determine which zone(s) work best for your needs. Keep in mind you don't necessarily need to be right next to the the sight(s) you intend to visit, as a direct (no transfer) metro line to the location can get you there fast enough. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- Romelle, have a great trip Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
katharry Posted June 24, 2010 Author Report Posted June 24, 2010 Thank you both - really appreciated!
katharry Posted May 6, 2011 Author Report Posted May 6, 2011 Update, thanks for the help we didn't end up bidding for our stay in Paris
