yvydoodle Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Hi,I have been rejected up to $115 for 3.5* or better for Boston from Aug. 22-24. The 21st is optional, if the price were right. Starting to get expensive compared to what I have paid in the past in Boston. Thinking of going down to 3* or better or even just booking directly with a hotel instead of with PRICELINE /HOTWIRE. Any tips for strategy?I was originally looking in the following areas:Boston Harbor frontBoston WaterfrontCambridgeCopley SquareQuincy MarketAlso, I am wondering if anybody had tried the hotel zone in Boston. I am not opposed to it, as long as the MBTA services the area and doesn't cause problems. Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates over $115 are not uncommon in Boston... what is the best rate you're able to find for this stay thru conventional booking channels? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Have you bid for 8/21-8/24 yet or only for 8/22-8/24?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yvydoodle Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 To be honest, conventional booking channels remain significantly higher than the best deal available via Hotwire ($175 + tax.) When I started considering conventional channels, I was thinking that there was a significant 'fee' attached with the HOTWIRE / PRICELINE prices. I have been reminded that those fees are not really any more than standard tax (ie the hotel tax in Boston hurts!). So...I am back to realizing that HW/PL will be my option.l I see that $159 for a four star is available via HOTWIRE. I think I just have to adjust my expectations with regards to price and suck up that it will be more expenisve than what I have paid before. Red Sox tickets are already in hand so there is no real 'max' price. Just trying to make sure I get the best deal. I have tried bidding 21-24 of August a few times, but the two nights (22-24) is what I am really after.
thereuare Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Actually PRICELINE and HOTWIRE do charge a booking fee, which on a 2 nite stay will be about $6-7/nite... not much considering the savings typically seen :)So do you want to try bidding the zones you previously listed, up to $159, for a 3* or better hotel... or do you want to try for a 4* first and then if that is rejected try 3.5*, and if that is rejected try 3*?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yvydoodle Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 Hi,Bid $140 for 3.5* or better for the nights of August 22 & 23. Ended up with the Millennium Bostonian Hotel, right at Quincy Market. Not familiar with that brand, but it looks nice, saved about $100 compared to best available rate on their website. Love the location.
