Good day.

I usually use PRICELINE, however because of the lack of time (renting for tomorrow) and my bids not being accepted ($15 for a standard, $17 for a full size), I opted to do the following:

1. Make a reservation through Thrifty that I can cancel (1 week @ $130.90/week with Unlimited Miles)

Estimated Mandatory Charges

Rental Time Charge $130.90

APT CONC RECOV FEE (11.11pct) $14.78

Customer Facility Charge ($10.00 per rental) $10.00

STATE TAX (9.75pct) $14.42

TOURISM SURCHARGE (3.5pct) $4.58

Vehicle License Fee ($0.31 per day) $2.17

Total Estimated Mandatory Charges $176.85

Estimated Grand Total $176.85

2. Try using Hotwire or the other car rental consolidators to compare prices and get a higher level chain (e.g. Hertz, Avis, National)

I ended up with the following rental through HOTWIRE:

Car rental

Car daily rate - Hotwire hot Rate: $19.95

Rental days:6

Subtotal:$119.70

Tax recovery charges and fees:$53.18

Total price:$172.88

Total charges to your credit card $172.8

What was notable about this rental was two things:

1. I booked this rental on 6/13/10 at 5pm (less than 24 hours before pickup). I am surprised I was able to get this rate for this car at such short notice.

2. I was originally offered $23 per day from HOTWIRE, and then left the window open, returned about 30min to 1hr later and when I reloaded the same offer had gone down to $20 per day.

I hope this information is helpful.
