I'm a first-timer, and I'm trying my hand for a trip, July 01~05.

I would like to stay in the DC area, but was also looking for free parking to be included.

I see #10 as Georgetown North, but I don't know what hotels are in this zone...

Any assistance is appreciated...

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I would like to stay in the DC area, but was also looking for free parking to be included.
It's very unlikely hat you're going to find a hotel within the "city" part of DC which includes parking. Even if you did, with PRICELINE you can't choose the hotel you will receive, so there would be no way to target that particular property.

If you did stay in this zone, how would you get to the heart of DC? There would be no assurance that the hotel you receive would be near a metro stop, that there would be parking (fee or free) if you had to drive to the train, and if you drove to DC you'd then have to pay for parking once you arrived... or do you have some other plan in mind for getting to the city if you stay outside the 'city' limits?

What type of star rating are you seeking for this stay? What is your expected budget? (per nite before fees and taxes)

You've got some good advice...I was looking for at least a 3* rating, and was hoping to do tourist-like things like the Smithsonian, and a walking tour of the Capitol Buildings.

I've been reading that the Savoy Suites was a potential in the area I searched. I wouldn't mind paying a minimum parking fee, but I'm seeing that some hotels charge some pretty steep rates for valet parking.

With regards to the nightly, I was hoping to bid near the $70 per night .

I'm not into too much of the night-life, and will have 2 kids along for the trip...

I'm open to some suggestions, as this is not a planned trip, but a quick getaway for a few days...

This raises another issue...

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it is at the discretion of the hotel. It's possible you could receive a room with only one bed and the hotel may be unable, or unwilling, to give you a room which has two beds (or if they are willing/able, there could be an additional charge). How many guests will there be in total?

HOTWIRE does give you the ability to search for up to quad occupancy so that may be a better option given your needs, but the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE. With HOTWIRE you can also use the amenities to take an educated guess as to the hotel being offered, so you might be able to use this information to take a guess as to the hotel being offered... thus determining the parking charge before your purchase as well as the distance to the metro (which may also enable you to stay a little further outside of 'downtown' if you can reasonably believe that the hotel is walkable to the metro or the hotel provides a local shuttle)

Lastly, if you do decide to stay 'downtown', you won't likely be using your car during your stay, so you could try to find cheaper parking nearby or even in some of the outer areas, then take the metro back to the hotel (returning via metro to pick up your car at the end of your trip)

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed.

I should have mentioned the kids are both young. There are only 4 of us in total...

I'll do some more research, I'm thinking that the best option would be to pick a hotel in the downtown DC area, and pay for the parking for the 2 days. I don't mind doing a little walking around the town.

I'll read about the successes in the HOTWIRE forums for Washington DC...

Thanks,

Thank you for sharing your result with the board!

The price you paid ($60), did that include any bonus cash (so you paid $50) or did you bid $60 (making your bid $70)?

Enjoy your stay.
