D-Rock Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 4* hotels in South Beach - Miami.....What do you think the chances are that the Hotel Clinton will come up before the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza? Will it always come up if there is availability? I would prefer to stay on the beach and have stayed at the Crowne Plaza before. I have debated trying for a 4* South Beach for just one night 4/14/05 to see what would come up....so that I am not locked into the Hotel Clinton for the whole trip......I would much prefer the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza since it is on the beach .....and then adding a night if it is the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza......I checked Easyclicktravel.com.....they have the royal palm for $149 which is a very good price. Hotwire show's what appears to be the Royal Palm for the same amount. I am just considering all the options before I decide to do anything. My main question is what is your opinion on the New Clinton coming up more often than the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza. Any advice would be appreciated....Thanks! (April 14th to April 18th)
thereuare Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 Really can't answer your question definatively, but may be able to add some insight that you may or may not know.Priceline will award the hotel that has a rate loaded closest to but less than equal to your bid... so basically if the New Clinton has a lower rate loaded than the Crowne Plaza than you are more than likely to get the New Clinton. Usually the next thought is "Why don't i bid more to increase my chances of getting the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza", but this is not recommended as explained in DON'T BID HIGHER FOR A SPECIFIC HOTEL.Remember also that hotels can have multiple rates loaded for the same nite, but can also have different rates loaded for different nites... so even if you win one nite at the CP there is a chance that you get a different hotel when you bid the remaining nites. It comes down to how much you think you'll save by using Priceline vs. how disappointed you'll be if you end up with the New Clinton.Between Hotwire and EasyClick i would go with EASYCLICK because they offer a good cancellation policy and there are no booking fees. However, for your dates i'm showing the hotel come up as "on request" which means they would have to contact the hotel to see if they can get additional rooms as their block rate (and i'm showing at $189... not the $149 you mention above). If Easyclick wasn't available, i'd have no problem booking with HOTWIRE if there was a hotel i was trying to avoid... and the rate isn't bad considering the Crowne Plaza is $300+/nite. D-Rock Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 Are you familiar with Easyclick's cancellation policy? Is it true that as long as you cancel within 72 hours of your arrival date...you get a full refund? It looks like the $149 Easyclick rate applies to the 15th through the 18th. What I was thinking....... take a chance on the 14th with Priceline and see what I would get..If it happened to be the Royal Palm Crowne Plaza.....I could add a night....the 15th and it would have to be the same hotel.....and then I could buy the nights of the 16th and 17th on Easyclick......isn't that correct? If you add a night to a Priceline reservation doesn't it have to be the same hotel....as long as they have availablility? If it was not the Royal Palm then I would just stay the night of the 14th at the New Clinton or whatever came up and then book the 15th thru 18th on Easyclick. What do you think?
thereuare Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Are you familiar with Easyclick's cancellation policy? Is it true that as long as you cancel within 72 hours of your arrival date...you get a full refund?Yes, that is EASYCLICK's current policy... except for Disney properties which i believe are 5 days instead of 72 hours. The cancellation policy should be shown to you before the final screen. The "add a nite" feature from priceline ensures you get the same hotel.Your plan sounds as if it's a sound one. When you have time please also follow-up with whatever plans you made for your NYC STAY.
