tpuppie Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 I'm about to try and get a car for 6/23-6/30, p/u LAX d/o SNA, must fit 6 pple. I've never tried PL for a car before. Is there a sticky somewhere on this site that will alert me to any fine print I need to know about for car rentals? And bidding strategies? Mostly finding hotel info when I poke around. The only thing that concerns me is the car capacity--we cannot take any chances with that. Looks like there are some good deals to be had, though, so I hope it can work for us.TIA!
thereuare Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Other than a minivan, what car class are you able to accept? What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. tpuppie Posted June 10, 2010 Author Report Posted June 10, 2010 Best I've seen is about $650 for the week.I said minivan b/c we need the room for 6 passengers and any SUV listings with 6 person capacity have been more expensive than minivans. So I assumed that was our best option. We're 2 adults, 4 kids, two of whom are still in carseats.
thereuare Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Best I've seen is about $650 for the week.Is this 'all-in' before taxes and fees? If not, what is the total after taxes and fees? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 That rate looks pretty good compared to what i'm currently seeing (from the tier1 providers) for these dates. The above is equivalent to a $80 PRICELINE bid, so i would start at $50 and increase by $5 every 24 hours until you reach a point where you're no longer saving enough to make a non-refundable opaque purchase worthwhile. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. tpuppie Posted June 17, 2010 Author Report Posted June 17, 2010 Just an update: I tried a few days of bids ($50-55-60-65) and then gave up and used my husband's work's code, which was only $70 more for the week than the $65 PL bid would have been if it had been accepted.Worth a try though.Thanks.
