naft2717 Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Looking for 3.5* and up (4* preferable) for NYC June 21-23. Would be okay with Central Park South, Empire State Building Area, and Times Square - Theatre District. Midtown East, Midtown West, and Madison Square Garden - Convention Area would be secondary choices.Any ideas what we'd end up paying via Priceline? And what should be a bidding strategy? If it changes the numbers enough, we'd be open to June 22-24.Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Please provide a follow-up to your prior Las Vegas Hotwire thread with what you decided to do for that stay (please post what you decided upon in that thread.) Then, reply to this thread and we would be happy to offer thoughts on the NYC stay above.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
naft2717 Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 Apologies for not posting the reply back then. Done so now.
thereuare Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 We did use PRICELINE, however, for 2 days at the back end of this trip in San Diego. We got the Sheraton Suites San Diego At Symphony Hall for $65/nightCan you please share this win with the board by posting a NEW TOPIC so that the information can help others, and please include the dates of your stay so we can have this win appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.As far as NYC, these rates for these dates are somewhat high... i'm guesing a 4* you're looking at the $225 area and for a 3.5* maybe $175... is this within your budget for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. naft2717 Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 I think we'd go as high as $175 or so. What you recommend as a bidding strategy?
thereuare Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 At the 4* level in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* ESB, TS, MTE, and MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB, TS, MTE, MTW and CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. kess45 Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Re-bid zones I see are Chelsea, MSG, UES, Brooklyn, Long Island City. You mention 6. What am I missing?Coney Island?
thereuare Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Yes, Coney Island is your 6th re-bid zones... but make sure you know how to determine these yourself (using the techniques in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, not using the hotel lists here on the board) as they should be checked before every bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked :)If you need help feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. naft2717 Posted June 10, 2010 Author Report Posted June 10, 2010 Not quite getting there with 4* hotels. Ready to try 3.5* for ESB and MSG. Strategy suggestions?
thereuare Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Please confirm, at the 3.5* level you're only interested in MSG and/or ESB... the other previously bid zones are not acceptable at the 3.5* level? thereuare Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3.5* MSG...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MSG and ESB...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. naft2717 Posted June 10, 2010 Author Report Posted June 10, 2010 I actually see 5 re-bid zones - UES, LIC, Hell's Kitchen, Coney Island, Chelsea. Am I wrong?
naft2717 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Report Posted June 11, 2010 Nope, Hell's Kitchen isn't a re-bid zone.
thereuare Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Now you have it... Hells Kitchen is not a re-bid zone. (always doublecheck your re-bid zones just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck with your bidding and let us know how it goes. naft2717 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Report Posted June 14, 2010 Giving up on this one. Prices for 3.5* and up are going to be above $175/night. Going to use a combination of frequent flyer miles and some cash to book two nights at the Crowne Plaza above Grand Central Station.
thereuare Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Thanks for 'closing' this thread with your decision for this stay.Just so you end up in the right place, note that there is no Crowne Plaza above Grand Central... there is a Crowne Plaza in Times Square, but the hotel above Grand Central is a Grand Hyatt.Enjoy your stay in NYC. naft2717 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Report Posted June 14, 2010 Ya, sorry, mistake on my end. I meant the Crowne Plaza Times Square.
