munchkin01 Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 I am familiar with PRICELINE,but rarely use HOTWIRE. I am looking for a hotel for 6/12-6/13 as close to Charlestown, MA as possible. This area is on the outer edge of the Cambridge bidding zone, and close to the Harbor Front bidding zone. Some of the recent hotel wins for the Harbor Front area, are actually Closer than those in the Cambridge area (as it is a large area). I am looking to spend around $100. Also, HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel in Cambridge, for $84 (seems really cheap), but I can't properly identify the hotel, the amenties are complimentary breakfast, fitness center, and restaurant.Any help on the best way to go about this would be greatly appreciated :)
thereuare Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! The 3* Cambridge property has not yet been reported to the board, but the Kendall Hotel seems like a very good fit and that would be my best guess for this one.If you use PRICELINE you're subject to receiving a hotel anywhere in the shaded boundary of the zone, so how would the HOTWIRE property above (assuming it's the Kendall) work for your plans vs. an 'unknown' property anywhere in the zone(s) you select? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. munchkin01 Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 Just looked on HOTWIRE again and that hotel is gone and the 3* on there is now $142. Wow! That was fast.I guess I must use PRICELINE. Which zone do you think I have a better chance of getting a close hotel in?
thereuare Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Which zone do you think I have a better chance of getting a close hotel in?If you use PRICELINE you're subject to receiving a hotel anywhere in the shaded boundary of the zone...As per above, there is no way to know which hotel in the zone you'll receive... you have to make a decision if you want to hope for the best location in the Cambridge zone with the risk that you end up further away than if you had selected the Harbor Front zone. You figure this is a toss-up, and therefore selected both zones, having PRICELINE award you the one with the cheapest available rate :)Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- the 3* Cambridge property is still offered... but it's now priced at $142/nite Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
