Priceline Hotel: 3* Newark-Meadowlands (Jersey City) Doubletree Club Suites

Hi all,

I'm new to using PRICELINE and have spent the last few days reading around, and am clear on how the rebid process works.

I'm planning a small trip with a couple of friends that will end in the NJ/NY area on the last weekend of June. I'm looking at NJ because of the savings, of course. We want to stay at a hotel as near as possible to a PATH station, so that leads me to believe that the best option would be Jersey City. I know there's also the Hilton near the Newark Penn Station, but there are various 3.5*'s in that area, so there's no guarantee I'd get it.

So, if I choose Jersey City, what star ratings should I be looking at? I'm guessing none of the hotels at the area have free parking, right?

I'd believe that any 4*'s would meet this criteria, but any additional help will be appreciated.

You got it, just did both.

NJ dates are from 6/25 - 6//27 (could also consider staying on 6/24).

I'd say the budget would be around $75 - $90 before taxes.

3 adults on one room, which probably means I should go for 3.5* - 4* to be comfortable, right?

Hi,

I am also interested in Jersey City as an alternative to Manhattan from July 1 to July 4. I was wondering if you knew what the 3.5* hotel options in the Jersey City area on PRICELINE are. The hotel list you have posted only includes 3 and 4* hotels.

Regardless of star rating, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy which means you could receive a room with only one bed and the hotel may not be able, or willing, to accommodate your request for a room with two beds... is this a risk you're willing to accept?

If not, HOTWIRE may be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and guarantee sleeping accommodations for everyone yo include in your search. The trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE.

HOWEVER, it all may be a moot point for at the moment i don't think your budget is going to be enough for a 3.5* or 4* hotel. Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

We're willing to take the risk regarding the beds. Worst case scenario, one of my friends has the option of staying with family at NJ (they have a small guest room).

I do have a $10 credit per night which I plan to use, so it would effectively bump the budget to $85-$100.

I'd try a 4* first, of course, but if it seems unrealistic, then 3.5* it is.

I'm fairly familiar with this area and i don't know of any 3.5* hotels in this zone. It's been speculated that there are some areas where PRICELINE shows a star rating available where no such hotel exists, and this may be one of them... although i don't recommend using this assumption as a re-bid zone in any area where this may be believed to be the case.

Based upon current rates i don't think your $100 budget is going to be enough but if you want to give it a try...

At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones available; at the 3.5* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

I read around some more and decided to skip the 3.5* option. Had no luck with 4*, up to ~ $145.

Ended up bidding $115 for a 3* and got the Doubletree Hotel, from 6/25-6/27.

My first time using Priceline, and I learned a lot from here. I used the PRICELINE link, and hope I did it correctly.
