Hi.

Let me first mention that I've been getting great advices from this website and were able to book nicest hotels in the past via Priceline.

This time though, it looks like going with Hotwire might be a better option because I really want to be on the safe side with this one.

I have a very important guest coming in town and am looking to book a nice hotel in the Midtown area.

date : 3/4 - 3/6 (2 nights)

area : NYC midtown area (with easy access to fun stuff)

price : around $150 - $200 per night

I don't want to be lavish, but I'm actually more concerned with safety (convenience for a tourist) and tidiness than price.

Jersey city is not an option for me b/c the guest might need to take late-night taxi cab from midtown

Any suggestions?

Looks like HOTWIRE has the Inter-Continental for $189/nite and given your parameters that is probably what i would select.

Thanks for the info.

I think I have two viable options.

Midtown East (Midtown)

Selected amenities include: Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Tennis Nearby, Business Center.

$189

Midtown East (Midtown)

Selected amenities include: Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Spa Services, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center

$162

Is the top one Inter-Continental on 48TH/LEXINGTON? I checked on their website and the rates are $209/night which makes $189 from hotwire not much of a save with lock-in reservation.

Any idea for the bottom one? Any other suggestion is welcome. Thanks!

I believe that the other MTE hotel might be the W New York on Lexington and although the W name is impressive, the reviews are poor. The amenity icons match what has been associated with this property, but it has previously been reported as a 4.5*... based upon the reviews it wouldn't surprise me if it was downgraded, but that's just speculation as we have seen no evidence that it has been.

But we have a solution (i think)... thru QUICKBOOK you can get the Affinia 50 where the REVIEWS are excellent. They have standard guestrooms at $159 and further down the page (if you rank the hotels by price) there is a Studio suite for $179.
