SDF Louisville KY to SFO, maybe OAK or SJC

I'm going to from SDF to SFO in Aug, i will need an air ticket for me and a rental car for the time being in Cali. Would you suggest to book both together or do it in two booking?

the best deal so far from the check is $297 before tax.

I have done many hotel and car rental via PRICELINE but have never done one with airfare.

How much of discount people is usually gettin from PL? 5% 10%?

Also what do i need to know before i book the ticket from PRICELINE?

i understand there is a time limit on the flight departure............ what else do i need to know before i start bidding?

Also if i decide to bid, what is a good price to start with?
