54m33r Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 I'm looking for a hotel room in DC for the night of Mon, June 7. We're actually there from Fri-Tue but I've found a hotel for the first 3 days (see my winning priceline bid Washington DC thread). Priceline wouldn't accept the bid to extend our stay by one day though. We're staying in the downtown area (I think!) the first 3 nights, but we're open to other areas. Our flight leaves BWI at 5:15 PM EST so we have most of the day free to do whatever we want to do. Any suggestions on what areas to bid on? We'd be interested in staying in an area that's unique to DC.
AaronJB Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 Unfortunately, this particular date is going to be more expensive than the other three; would you consider paying more to stay within a reasonable distance of the Westin (which looks to be sold out on 6/7), or would you be interested in looking at areas further out that may be more reasonable? What would be your desired budget for this night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
54m33r Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 Yeah, I'm absolutely open to an area that's further out. It doesn't have to be close to the Westin. I guess it would be nice to pay a $100 or less, but we'd probably pay up to $125.Why is 6/7 so expensive? Is it just the fact that it's a Monday?
thereuare Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 It's probably more than "just a Monday" for the high rates you're seeing for this nite... conventions, governmental meetings, lobbying, etc. are all possibilities for the high demand, and thus high prices. To stay within the "city proper" you're likely looking closer to $200 than $100... probably around $175 seems plausible. If you let us know which zone(s) you're willing to accept (by PRICELINE name) we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow, up to whatever amount you decide you're willing bid, but at the moment i think $125 is not at all likely. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. 54m33r Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 I'm thinking something close to Adam's Morgan would be nice. A friend of mine lived in DC for a long time and suggested this neighborhood. In fact, he even suggested a place to stay; a place called Adam's Inn. They have rates starting at $99. We'd probably get the $149 room there, which, with tax, comes out to about $182.00...if we decide to go that route. But I'd like to try my luck with PRICELINE first. The closest bidding area to Adam's Morgan on PRICELINE is Dupont Circle-Woodley Park. Suggestions on a strategy? With regards to how much to spend, I suppose we'll spend up to $150 (~180 with tax) since that's what the inn above is listed at.
thereuare Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 At the 3.5* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3.5* Dupont Circle...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Dupont Circle and re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. 54m33r Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 Guys, just closing the loop on this. I tried multiple bids (the highest at $131) but didn't get anything. So we just booked with Adam's Inn directly at a base rate of ~$143. Taxes additional.
