WashWest456 Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Looking for 2 rooms, 4 adults, prefer 4*, for a night in NYC on June 19. I'm getting a 4* in MTE for $226. I think it's the Grand Hyatt since the amenities are:Fitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterHigh Speed InternetTennis Nearby$226 doesn't seem like a good deal based on what others are getting for that area now. Do prices go up a lot in June? I am not risk-tolerant enough to wait until a few days before.Advice?
AaronJB Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Prices can vary from day-to-day significantly, especially if something is going on during the dates in question. This listing could be the Intercontinental Barclay or GH, but I'd lean towards it being the Barclay. The spread between regular rate and discount rate is not quite as sizable as some other Summer periods (the Barclay is $279); possibly hotels are not discounting as heavily for this date - which may be due to something going on (not sure regarding NYC's convention calendar.)You could try PRICELINE to see if you could undercut HOTWIRE's price and get a cheaper 4* in the zone, or you could wait, but if there is something going on that's factoring into the lesser discounts seen for these dates, prices may head higher in the meantime. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
WashWest456 Posted June 2, 2010 Author Report Posted June 2, 2010 Thanks for the help. I couldn't get a very good deal through PRICELINE (which I of course searched using this site's links, as I always do) so I just booked the best 4* rate I could find on Kayak. Didn't want to get stuck with tiny rooms or single beds, so it was worth it to me to pay a little more (~$80 more for two rooms in this case). Thanks again.
