Hi I'm an experienced PRICELINE bidder and still I'm having trouble winning a room in NYC for June 19. I am seeking a 4* hotel, preferably downtown. In April I was able to get a room at the Millenium Hilton for 135. I have gone up to 160 and still no luck. Any tips? (I know how to make a "free" bid).

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Please provide your desired max budget per night for this stay. Which other areas would be acceptable aside from downtown?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Which zones have you bid up to $160 for so far? Which Midtown zones would you be interested in (MTW, MTE, ESB, etc?)

HOTWIRE is showing a 4* for $229, but it's a regular rate listing via Hotels.com - the Millennium Hilton.

While the Millennium Hilton has a regular rate of $229, the other 4*'s in the area are either quite pricey for this date or (in the case of Gild Hall and the Embassy Suites) appear to be sold out - there may be something going on in that area to cause limited discounts and/or inventory in general for the downtown area.

There is a 3.5* in the Downtown area on HOTWIRE for $173 (fitness, internet, laundry), which would likely be the Club Quarters Downtown. While not a 4*, it would be a potential option.

So, you could continue to bid higher for a 4*, or start over again and try bidding for a 3.5* in the Downtown/Soho/Financial area if staying in the downtown area would be preferable over staying in Midtown.

Thanks. I think there probably is something going on downtown.

Midtown W or Central or East would work.

The ESB is probably affinia?

What's disturbing is there is not much difference between direct booking and HOTWIRE / PRICELINE, and I have a pretty good idea for what I'm willing to pay (or really, not pay) for not knowing what hotel I'm getting. In other words, 25-30 isn't going to do it for me. I'd rather know. HOTWIRE and PRICELINE have to do better for me or I'm not interested.

I don't want to stay at CQ. That was I was concerned about.

Thanks for the help

What is the best deal you're currently able to get thru conventional booking channels and at what hotel?
