dadinero Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 I placed this bid late last night, but am just posting it here today.I started off at $74 on PRICELINE, looking for Downtown South, and used the various rebid zones (Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington, Don Valley, Oakville, Scarborough, Toronto East, Toronto West, Vaughan were the ones w/o 4* hotels, at the time I bid). I went up $3-$4 each time, and it finally hit with $98.The taxes and fees are $50.07, so the grand total for 3 nights is $344.07 USD.I was hoping for the Sheraton, since that is where my group is staying, but the Hilton is right next door. I was also expecting it to hit at a slightly lower price, based on the various posts here. So one question- had I waited another week, or two, would I have gotten a lower price? In general, is there a time frame (one week before your stay, for example) during which hotels start to take lower-priced bids? In any case, it isn't a bad deal- and I thank all of the posters here for giving me the info to bid properly. I won't have a car so I was at first hesitant about using PRICELINE, since I was afraid I'd end up in the suburbs or something.
yellowdog Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding and congratulations on your success!Thank you for sharing your result with the board! So one question- had I waited another week, or two, would I have gotten a lower price? In general, is there a time frame (one week before your stay, for example) during which hotels start to take lower-priced bids?No there is no time frame for this. And sorry to say no general answer either. Please read this link: Should i Bid Early or Close to Arrival Date since I was afraid I'd end up in the suburbs or something. Please look at the PRICELINE maps so you know the hotel will be within the boundaries of the zone you're bidding.Enjoy your stay. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start future purchases.Yellowdog.
dadinero Posted May 26, 2010 Author Report Posted May 26, 2010 Please look at the PRICELINE maps so you know the hotel will be within the boundaries of the zone you're bidding.Yep- that's exactly what I did- I should have said: BEFORE using this board, I was not sure about using PRICELINE. But the info here assured me I'd be fine.Only one problem- when I called the hotel today, they were not able to give me a non-smoking room. I didn't realize smoking rooms were still so common, so it didn't cross my mind I would get one. But apparently the woman at the Hilton told me I had been given a smoking room and there was nothing she could do about it. The only thing she said I could do is to ask when I check in, and if they have non-smoking rooms available, I could have one. But my flight gets in late, so I may be stuck.I get that this is PRICELINE's deal, but it is nevertheless unfortunate.
AaronJB Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Sorry to hear that you are in a smoking room, but you could try again calling at a different time and then checking again at check-in. However, if smoking is a problem (allergies, etc) you could try calling PRICELINE and seeing if there is anything they can do.Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases.
