django Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 hello to all, i'm from austria (sorry if my english isn't that good) and new to this board.i'm looking for a 2,5* (or above :)) hotel in nyc. zones: CPS/Chelsea/DT/ESB/MSG/MTE/MTW/TS (UES,UWS and HK if you think i will not get a hotel for that price in my prefered zones).you think it's possible to get a 2,5* hotel in this zones for less than 100$?i allready tried the plan in this Priceline NYC thread going up to 90$, but no luck. i also tried to split my date. of course i used the PRICELINE-link from this board. there are five months until my trip, so maybe it's better to wait some weeks/months before bidding?edit: sorry, first post, first mistake. :) please move this to the pricline-thread.
thereuare Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! While you do have plenty of time between now and your stay, this is an expensive time in NYC and i'd be surprised if you were able to score anything for this stay at the under $100 level... what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
django Posted May 26, 2010 Author Report Posted May 26, 2010 thank you, there are some acceptable 2*-hotels at 140$, the next 3* hotels are the holiday inn wall street/soho (194$) and four points chelsea ~ 200$. hotwire rates beginning at 157$ for a central park area hotel and at 200$ for my prefered zones. maybe this is a stupid question, but why is this an expensive time. are there any special events/holidays at this time (halloween is the only one i know :) ) or just high season
thereuare Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 there are some acceptable 2*-hotels at 140$Which hotels have you found at this rate?..the next 3* hotels are the holiday inn wall street/soho (194$) and four points chelsea ~ 200$.Where are you seeing this rate... i'm seeing Holiday Inn starting at $318/nite and the Four Points starting at $375/nite.maybe this is a stupid question, but why is this an expensive time. It's just high season... Spring and Fall are typically the most expensive time of year in NYC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. django Posted May 26, 2010 Author Report Posted May 26, 2010 Which hotels have you found at this rate?hotel deauville (150$ with taxes), hotel 17 , hotel 31 (both 133$ with taxes, bookable via ehotel.de). they have 2 stars on tripadvisor, not on PRICELINE but i think they would be ok for me.Where are you seeing this rate... i'm seeing Holiday Inn starting at $318/nite and the Four Points starting at $375/nite.i thought holiday inn wallstreet and soho are the same. just meant the hi wallstreet. four points chelsea you can find at otel.com for $206It's just high season... Spring and Fall are typically the most expensive time of year in NYC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.ok understand, didn't know that end of october is still high season
thereuare Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 I had linked to the Holiday Inn Downtown... you to the Holiday Inn Soho, which are two different properties, sorry if i caused any confusion. The rates at the Four Points and Holiday Inn look pretty good, although still double what you want to spend. I'm not sure of the rates otel is offering (as they're substantially cheaper than Four Points themselves), but they are an "outlier" vs. any of the other sites i searched.I still think that $100 or under is going to be tough, but if you to give it a try we can suggest a strategy, just let us know if you want to include UES, UWS, and/or HK or not and we'll advise accordingly (as per your previous post, you're current thoughts are for a 2.5* in the CPS/Chelsea/DT/ESB/MSG/MTE/MTW/TS zones)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. django Posted May 27, 2010 Author Report Posted May 27, 2010 i did some research, and here are the PRICELINE-zones/stars that would work for meWhat do you think of this plan (5 months left):june/july: bids from $75 - $100 july/august: bids from $85 - $120 sept/oct: bids from $95 - $140 edit: do you think splitting the date from 10/26 - 10/29 and 10/29 - 11/02 is a good idea?prefered:** - Downtown/ESB/MSG/Chelsea/MTE/MTW/TS/HK (HK only has *** and above)*** - CPSif nothing will work:**1/2 - UWS*** - UES
thereuare Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 edit: do you think splitting the date from 10/26 - 10/29 and 10/29 - 11/02 is a good idea?If you don't mind changing hotels SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID can't hurt... but if you really want to be thorough you can try each of the following date combinations:10/26-11/210/26-11/110/27-11/210/26-10/3110/28-11/210/26-10/3010/29-11/210/26-10/2910/30-11/2... this allows you to try for the greatest number of days in one stay, leaving fewer days you need to 'fill in' to complete your dates. Also, i would re-iterate that i would avoid 2* hotels in NYC in the opaque market.. you may get something which suits your needs... but then again you may not. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. django Posted June 10, 2010 Author Report Posted June 10, 2010 yesterday i got the warwick via onhotels.com for 117$/night (without tax) for my last day. i think it's an error fare, cause 10min later it was around 320$. so my backup-plan is now complete. with PRICELINE and HOTWIRE no luck so far (2 1/2* /125$). i'll continue bidding and give an update if i get a nice deal
