My husband and I will be in NY for 7 nights 9/11-9/18. We would like a 2.5 to 3 star hotel in Chelsea, MSG, ESB or MTW. I'm hoping we can get something for less then $150/nt (preferably around $120/nt--excluding taxes). I realize September is an expensive time--does this seem possible? Can you suggest strategy. I've been reading this forum quite a while but as mentioned this will be my first attempt at PRICELINE.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

At the moment I think a 3* might be tough at $150 or under, but we can star there and see how it goes...

At the 3* level in NYC you have ONE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Thanks for your speedy and thorough reply. I just have one question regarding the difference between 2.5 and 3 stars. Our preference would be to have a hotel that either provides breakfast or has a fridge in the room. When I look at the list of PRICELINE hotels for Chelsea/MSG on this forum it seems as if the 2.5 star options often provide breakfast or rooms with fridges/microwaves. I know the lists are not comprehensive but since this is something that matters to us (more than amenities like dvd players or gyms) would it make more sense to bid on 2.5 star hotels before the 3 stars? I probably won't be bidding until next week but I just want to learn as much as I can before I begin.

Since you still have ONE re-bid zone at the 2.5* level you can just try the above but substitute 2.5* for 3*... if that is your preference.

I ususally recommend user stick with the higher star rated hotels when bidding in NYC. While there are some properties which at the lower ratings which are fine for your needs, there are others which might not be, and with PRICELINE you can't choose which type you will get :) . As well, Complimentary Breakfast is not something supplied by many NYC hotels (at any star level)... some do, but i'd consider yourself lucky if you should by chance land one of them. If this is an amenity you want i'd search HOTWIRE and choose a hotel with the Complimentary Breakfast icon. As well, in NYC you can usually get away pretty cheap for breakfast... tons of breakfast carts with bagels and coffee for ~$1 (although the bagels are not that great), stop in a 'real' local bagel shop for ~$3, as well as a variety of bodegas/convenience stores which have breakfast specials (egg sandwich and coffee for $2-$3 or so)
