Priceline Hotel: 3* NYC (MSG-Convention) The Ramada New Yorker

Hi,

I am trying to bid 2 hotel rooms in Manhattan for the period from 7/20 to 7/24. I have seen some users were able to bid ~$140 for a 4* hotel (Sheraton) room in MTW. I have tried that, but got rejected. Just wondering what realistic price should I be looking for. I am fine with a 3* room too, as long as the area is relatively safe and not extremely busy (like Times Sq.)

Thanks !

Summer is usually low season in NYC but we have not yet seen rates too low for this time of year. I would be inclined to book a refundable back-up and see if rates drop in the next few weeks or so.

If you're prefer to get this done i would consider other areas... at the 4* level MTE, CPS, ESB should all be fine for your needs. At the 3.5* level i would bid MSG-Chelsea, MTW, ESB... CPS if you don't mind a very small room, MTE if you don't mind the potential 15 minute walk to the subway (but it would be quiet). For a 4* currently i would think you're looking about $160 +/-... perhaps $130 +/- for a 3.5*.

Thanks for the info! I have one question, you mentioned about the refundable back-up, how do I bid for that kind of rooms? Is there an option to check when I make my bid? I bet there must be a page explaining all these details, I'm sorry for this newbie question :)

On the other hand, yeah, $160 is a little bit over my price range, but I'll still consider it for the areas you suggested and make some bids over the weekend.

A refundable back-up is not thru PRICELINE (at least not thru their bidding channel) nor thru HOTWIRE... it's purchasing thru a "conventional" booking channel (Expedia. Orbitz, Travelocity, PRICELINE's 'retail' channel, direct with the hotel, etc) where you can find a rate that is cancellable (always doublecheck the terms) as this protects you from rates moving higher from here while you continue to try PRICELINE and/or HOTWIRE... then if you're successful with either you simply cancel the back-up reservation. As you <hopefully> will ultimately be cancelling the back-up reservation, you want to make sure the rate you book qualifies for a full refund if you cancel.

I started with bidding on 3.5* on MTW, ESB and MSG from $110 and stopped at $140. All got rejected.

Then I tried with 3* on the same areas. Tried bidding on $110, $120 and $125. Got accepted at $130.

Thanks,
