ajay7711 Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Hi Iam a newbie and am trying to bid on price line for newyork on 5/29 to 06/01. I prefer to stay in downtown nearer to the sightseeing attractions. Is there any bottom line price for this.Iam looking for a 3 * or 3.5 *. Iam more inclined towards the lesser price than the quality of the hotel.I have read the priceline bidding rules and i understand them.Should i start with 100 or even less to get what i want. Please advise.
thereuare Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!I would argue that there are more sightseeing attractions in the midtown area(s), and that this would be more convenient for the typical traveler, but you know your plans best... are you sure that most of your activities center around being Downtown? If you're not sure, or you think midtown may work just as well (or better), you could also play it so that you could include all acceptable areas (ie- some midtown zones as well as Downtown) and let whichever has the lowest price be the one which accepts your bid.Let us know your thougths regarding the zone(s) you'd like to bid, as well as your maximum bid, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please click this PRICELINE link before replying. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ajay7711 Posted May 22, 2010 Author Report Posted May 22, 2010 Thanks for your reply. I want to stay in one of the following areasHell's kitchen,Downtown soho,ESB,MTE,MTW,MSG,Time square .Before that i would like to know whether these areas are safe to walk around at night and accessible by public transportation. My max Budget is 120 + tax. It does not matter much to me as long as it is in the above places(provided u guys give ur +ve comments regarding safety and public transportation).
thereuare Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Hell's kitchen,Downtown soho,ESB,MTE,MTW,MSG,Time square .Before that i would like to know whether these areas are safe to walk around at night and accessible by public transportation. At the 3.5* level and below the MTE zone has some hotels which are less convenient to the subway than others... about a 15 minute walk... would this be acceptable? As well, Hells Kitchen would be a similar distance to the subway.Your $120 maximum bid isn't out of the question, but might just fall a little short. There is one "outlier" on HOTWIRE... a 4* hotel in the MTC zone for $159/nite (best guess is the Le Parker Meridien), so you might have a chance at a 4* for via PRICELINE for just a little more than your $120 budget, but after that all the remaining hotels at the 3* and higher level are ~$25 more per nite. Not sure if you're after the least expensive 3.5* (or 3*) or better OR if your budget is flexible if you might want to try for the 4* first up to $130-$140.Let us know your thoughts as to how you'd like to proceed, taking into consideration the 3*/4* information above, as well as the zones. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ajay7711 Posted May 23, 2010 Author Report Posted May 23, 2010 I went and searched on Hotwire but could not find the $159 nite hotel you were talking about(i might be out of luck). From your reply i might not prefer a 15 min walk to the subway ,iam just wondering is the subway only way to travel.Would you not have other public transportation to MTE and Hells kitchen (may be buses) at night. If you think they are not flexible, yes iam ready to add 25$ extra per nite. As for my choice of hotel preference i would prefer from above 3*. As per your suggestion should i start directly from 4*+ for 130 starting with times sqaure and then adding MSG ,wall street to it.Next step would be to bid 3* for the same price. Thanks for helping me out.
thereuare Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 I'm still seeing it...Go to HOTWIRE, 2adults/0chid, a 4* hotel in the MTC zone for $159/nite with Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Internet, Spa. Your price may differ by a few dollars.. are you seeing any 4* hotel in the MTC zone? seabreeze Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 I need a room for these exact same dates, but I'm trying to decide if I should stay in Manhattan or stay by LaGuardia and take the bus into Manhattan each day.Just an FYI: I do see the $159 MTC hotel on Hotwire.I guess I should start a separate thread for my own bid. :)
