lsrt Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 My parents, my sister and me will be visiting DC in August (16-20, Mon-Fri). Important points:We need two rooms and would like to stay on the cheap. The most important thing is to be close to a Metro station, so that we can move freely and cheaply within DC.That means we can also stay in parts of Arlington and Alexandria, as well as Bethesda and Silver Spring, as long as the hotel is close to the Metro station.$80-$100/room budgetTips for bidding? Thanks!PS: I'm posting this on PL subforum too, hope that's fine with the admins

lsrt Posted May 24, 2010 Author Report Posted May 24, 2010 I thought I replied already... sorry about that. I've been using those links for a long time (I've been reading here for long before signing up), and of course I plan to keep on using them. Thanks for a great service!
thereuare Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 [*]That means we can also stay in parts of Arlington and Alexandria, as well as Bethesda and Silver Spring, as long as the hotel is close to the Metro station(emphasis added)Since you can't choose where in the zone you end up, i don't think you can safely bid these zones, as there is no way to bid for "a hotel close to a Metro station"... you need to be willing to accept a hotel anywhere in the shaded boundaries of the zone.HOTWIRE may be an option in these areas if you feel reasonably confident that you have identified the hotel being offered and it is close to a Metro station, but you would have to be confident that you guessed correctly. The 'good' news is that rates are not currently high for these dates and i'm guessing that you should be able to get something within your budget in the "downtown proper" (Convention Center, Dupont Circle, or White House) zones.Let us know how you'd like to proceed, the zone(s) and star level you'd like, and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lsrt Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 Thanks, that makes sense... I think I'm going to get started with HOTWIRE in the areas you mention: Convention Center, Dupont Circle, or White House. I'm going to target 3 stars but 2.5 is OK too. $80-$100 room, 2 rooms, 4 people, wireless internet is a must, breakfast included would be great. I'll try to match hotels in HOTWIRE with the list here. Thanks again!
