vile Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 At least the hotel is rated well. But no other website lists the Wingate as a 3*; all rate it as 2.5*. So I think the HOTWIRE rating system is a little bogus.g

vile Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 Oh ... no not disappointed ... just annoyed that they are playing with the rating system. I was using it to match the hotel and thought I would get the Holiday Inn which was rated better. But also saw on betterbidding that other people got the Wingate. They showed:-breakfast-fitness centre-pool-business centre-wifi
thereuare Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 You can see the hotel(s) reported in this zone in the Hotwire Hotel List where you'll find the Holiday Inn (4 star rated) and with different amenities than the above... and this Wingate rated 3* with these amenities.HOTWIRE tends to average the star ratings of the 3 major online agencies (Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity)... Expedia rates this 2.5*, while Orbitz rates it 3*, and Travelocity doesn't carry it. Therefore the average rating from Expedia and Orbitz is 2.75 and gets rounded up to 3*. Generally their averaging works pretty well, but it can be a problem in situations such as this where only 2 of the services follow the hotel and/or when there is more than a half star rating difference between the 3 services. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the date(s) of your stay so we can add this information to the topic title and enable your win to appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.Enjoy your stay. ascott318 Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Wingate Inn is much nicer than the Holiday inn. It has an indoor pool and comp breakfast in the morning. Wingate is a pretty new hotel and the Holiday Inn can use some updating.
vile Posted June 14, 2010 Author Report Posted June 14, 2010 The dates were May 21 - 24. We walked up to the front desk and negotiated an extra day for a few dollars less than what Hotwire was showing. Yay!@ascott318: In retrospect, the hotel **IS** alot better than the Holiday Inn also because it is just off the main drag and is a lot quieter. With alot of motorcycles and trucks roaring by at night, the Wingate is a lot better.Off to Maine next! If anyone has any tips! :)
