vthokies1996 Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Hello,A group of 4 of us are going to stay in NYC on June 12 to attend a Yankees game. We plan on getting 1 room. Looking at the Priceline website, I see the option for selecting 4 guests with 1 room when booking a set price room, but when I go into the portion of the site where you bid for rooms, I only see an option for the number of rooms. Is there a way when bidding for a room to guarantee that the room will accommodate 4 people (2 beds in room)? Finally, I was looking at another thread and saw where someone was looking for the same area and # of stars we are interested. Do you think the following (taken from another post) would work for the night of June 12? Any suggestions to tweak would be appreciated. We are trying to stay in the midtown area. thereuare Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. In NYC it's considered risky to book one room for more than double occupancy as there is a high percentage of hotel rooms with only one bed and little/no room for a rollaway. As well, at some properties rooms with two boards are considered an upgrade, so even if the hotel is willing to offer you a room with two beds, there may be an extra fee involved. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. vthokies1996 Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 After discussing it with everyone going, if we could get a room for $180 each, then we can bid on 2 rooms. We did find a large room on Orbitz with 2 beds for $300 but if we could pay $360 for 2 rooms we figure it might be worth it for the extra space. Any suggestions for 2 rooms for max of $180 each?
thereuare Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Which zone(s) are you willing to accept and what is your minimum star rating for this stay? What hotel did you find at Orbitz for the large room? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. vthokies1996 Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 Actually looking at my notes, it wasn't on Orbitz, it was directly off their website. I've checked so many times I forget which of the travel sites it was but the Hotel is the St. Giles The Court. With taxes its $335 for a 400-425 sq ft room. That's off their site, on the travel site, and like I said I forget which one, it was only $3 cheaper but was non-refundable. If we can't get 2 rooms off PRICELINE, then we may just book directly with the hotel for that room.If we were to go the PRICELINE route, we would hope for 3.5* or 4*, in one of the following: TS, MTE, MTW, ESB. We'd also be ok with MSG, CPS, or even Chelsea.

Did you first want to try for the first group of zones (TS, MTE, MTW, ESB) or is the least expensive out of any of the zones you listed as acceptable what you're seeking?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
