bobbyrjw Posted May 17, 2010 Author Report Posted May 17, 2010 Hi all,I bid on a 3.5* hotel in San Diego for next weekend and thought based upon the board I was bidding on the Paradise Point Hotel in Mission Bay for next weekend. (5/21-5/23) bid 75 a night and didn't get it. It did come back and say add $15 dolars a day and try again. I did it and got A HOTEL but 15 miles from where I wanted to be. I was "upgraded" to a 4* and got the Hilton Torrey Pines. After reading the reviews I don't think I'm going to stay because it's not all that nice and 4* is a stretch and it is also Wayyyyyyyyy out of the way from where we wanted to be. Kinda bummed me out. So now using Hotwire I am going to get a resort in Mission Bay for $202 a night and just forget the other hotel, didn't want to pay that much but I guess it's a lesson learned! Bummed me out for sure and feel like I wasted $200 for the expereince but I will definitely not try Priceline again!
thereuare Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Sorry to hear you received a hotel in an area you didn't intend. As you now know, the star rating you select is the minimum you are willing to accept and PRICELINE can upgrade you to a higher rated hotel. However, the Paradise Point isn't the only 3.5* rated hotel in this zone, so even if you received a 3.5* property there were no assurances that it would have been the one you were hoping for.I wouldn't necessarily write-off PRICELINE in the future, but use this board as a resource and ask questions and confirm your thinking/strategy before bidding. If you'd like help with your 'replacement' for this stay, or confirm what property you believe you're being offered on HOTWIRE, feel free to start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
