South Bay Mustang Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Hello, new member to the board but have been a reading it for a while now. I appreciate all of the helpful information here.I've booked two rooms at the Venetian thru a "normal" travel site, but am looking to see if I can do better thru Priceline. PRICELINE currently lists the rooms at the Venetian for $309/night. I've been unsuccessfully placing bids on Priceline and I'm up to $250. Seems pretty high to get rejected. I'm guessing I waited too long, plus it's a holiday weekend. I've seen successful bids here up until a few days ago at $155. Any advice on how high this request might run me? Thank you kindly.
thereuare Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! What is your current back-up rate at the Venetian? Are you wiling to accept another 5* hotel in this zone or is the Venetian the only hotel you're willing to accept? Are you ope to staying in the South Strip zone too, or only the North Strip?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please click this PRICELINE link before replying, and please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board for your future bidding, searches, and purchases. South Bay Mustang Posted May 17, 2010 Author Report Posted May 17, 2010 My current reservations are for an average of $279/night for the Venetian Bella suites. I am open to considering other 5* properties on the Strip, as long as they are suites. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 Do rooms at the Wynn and Encore fall within your definition of a suite? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. South Bay Mustang Posted May 18, 2010 Author Report Posted May 18, 2010 Well I have looked into availability at those two properties directly thru their websites with no luck, so I don't know if rooms are available there. But yes, those would suffice as suites.
South Bay Mustang Posted May 18, 2010 Author Report Posted May 18, 2010 Ended up rebidding and got the Palazzo for $250/night versus $309 listed price. Increased by $10 increments starting at $200. They countered at $267. I kept going up $10 at a time adding areas. At $230 they said I could rebid without changing anything by adding $30. Kept adding areas and increasing by $10 til they took my $250 price. Thanks for all the help BB.

South Bay Mustang Posted May 26, 2010 Author Report Posted May 26, 2010 I booked two standard suites at the Palazzo using the tips I learned here. I'm wondering what the chances are of an upgrade to a two queen bed Bella suite when we check in early Friday afternoon for a two night stay during Memorial Day Weekend? We're thinking of giving the front desk attendant fifty reasons to help us out. Would like your thoughts on the likelihood of this happening. Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Ultimately it will depend upon occupancy levels at the hotel and what is available. You can certainly try, and since it's Vegas tipping will likely help, but if it is possible, i would think that $20 would likely be enough of an incentive, although if it's worth it to you then you could try $50.Good luck. South Bay Mustang Posted May 26, 2010 Author Report Posted May 26, 2010 The only reason why I suggested $50 was since we have two rooms. Will follow up and let the board know of the results once I try it out.
South Bay Mustang Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 Did not end up trying giving the front desk staff 50 reasons to help us out. Because we had 8 people going, we needed to make sure we got upgraded to the Bella suites, so we called ahead and asked if they would be willing to upgrade us for $30/night per room, which is what their website charges on offpeak days. they did. A little bit more than we wanted, but we were assured of the upgrade before going so it was worth the peace of mind.
thereuare Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 I think that is a "fair" compromise... good for both you and the hotel. You get assured a room which will accommodate all everyone in your group while taking advantage of the discounted rate on the 'standard' room... the hotel gets some extra revenue from the upgrade.Hope you enjoyed your stay.
