win Posted February 19, 2005 Report Posted February 19, 2005 I'm trying to book a hotel for next weekend for two people: Thurs. 2/24 to Sun. 2/27. Would prefer to stay in Manhattan. Beyond that, however, price is much more important than area. I've been striking out repeatedly on Priceline so far, and have gone up to $130 for a 3*. Even that is uncomfortably expensive (but possible) for my budget. Private bathroom and at least a double bed are essential. Any ideas?Go Blue, by the way!Win
peridot Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Did you try all areas of Manhattan? Wow, striking out at $130 for a 3* is pretty bad. I also had trouble finding something reasonable for next weekend. I think it's spring break for some so that may explain. I opted for Jersey City - you should look into it as an option. Check out the New Jersey for more info.I learned that booking last minute is not always a good thing.
peridot Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 sorry, meant to say New Jersey forums...
win Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Posted February 20, 2005 Thanks Peridot. I may look into the Jersey City option--does the PATH run all the time? NYC hotels do seem unusually crowded next weekend. I think it's the combination of Spring Break and the final weekend The Gates are up. If anyone has any ideas for Manhattan hotels (3* plus), please send them my way!Best, win.
peridot Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Yes, the PATH runs 24 hours - you'll need to wait longer between trains after midnight but it does run all night. 'thereuare' had posted the timetable somewhere on this forum. Check in the New Jersey forum - there should be a topic on PATH train.FYI - I scored the Hyatt in Jersey City for $68.00 on Hotwire - It's a 3.5* - the highest star rating for hotels in Jersey, more equivalent to a 4* in my opinion. I struck out on Priceline and didn't want to wait the 72 hours to rebid. Good Luck!
win Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Posted February 20, 2005 Peridot, hope you're still reading....I have a Hotwire listing for for a 3 1/2 * hotel in Hoboken/Jersey City. It's the only listing to include a pool and the price for those three days is $80/night. That's obviously *much* better than what I was finding in NYC if the hotel is in a good location and readily accessible to Manhattan. Do you think it's the Hyatt? Were you pleased when you stayed there? Thanks again for all your help.W.
peridot Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Hi - I am only going to stay there next weekend - same as you..I got 3 nights for $68.00I am pretty sure that if it lists a pool it is the Hyatt...but nothing is 100% when bidding, unfortunately. I have heard rave reviews about that hotel. Priceline is more of a gamble because unlike Hotwire it doesn't show you the amenities. It seems like other users were able to score the Hyatt on Priceline for $48 or $55 bids by choosing Jersey City and 3*. It's your call....Good Luck!!!
win Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Posted February 20, 2005 I booked it on Hotwire and it was indeed the Hyatt. I bidded $65 for it on Priceline with no luck, so I think it's just a busy weekend. But I'm very happy with the deal anyway.Enjoy your trip. Sounds like we'll be there almost at the same time.Thanks,W.
cabara Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 If it's 3.5 stars in Jersey City and the amenities are restaurant, swimming poll and business center, it's a pretty good bet that it's the Hyatt Regency. My mother stayed there over Christmas. It was fabulous! I'm trying to snag a room for my brother there now.Good luck to you!
win Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Posted February 20, 2005 Cabara, that's great to hear.Best,W.
