bluemoon10 Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Hi, I've been trying to get decent hotel rates for months now, and was avoiding using Priceline because we need an accessible room, but perhaps you guys can help me:First and foremost: if I get a room through the Name your own price, would I still be able to request the hotel to give us an accessible room, or they can't make any changes in the reservation?Ideally we would like our parents to stay at the Marriott Wardman Park as it's close by for us to help them out and we already got good rates there for the 20th onwards, but anything in the Dupont Circle/Woodley Park would work even if they have to change hotels on the 20th.Here's what I need:5/18-5/20Woodley Park / Dupont Circle, if not, Georgetown or White House areas may work as wellI'm looking at 3.5* and up as I'm afraid the other ones may be too small or have less infrastructure for handicap (does it make sense or the 3* can still be decent for them?)I looked at the normal rates, and everything is $300+, not to say that it seems there are very few hotels available. :-(I've tried this on Priceline:3.5*Dupont Circle/Woodley and Georgetown$95 ; $ 110 Median yesterday morning as $406, afternoon was $385 and today is $411.... I think we'd be willing to go up to ~$140 although before trying again today I wanted to post here and see if you had any other advice. Should I perhaps try a 3*? Is getting a deal through priceline too risky given that we have specific needs? or Any other suggestions?thanks!
thereuare Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Currently from PRICELINE's help section:If you have special needs (e.g., wheelchair accessible room) you must call the hotel and verify that special needs can be met. Most hotels will be glad to accommodate you if rooms are available. Your hotel reservation will be refunded, canceled or modified if the particular hotel cannot meet special needs. However, high rates are usually indicative of high demand/occupancy, and hotels are not likely to be looking to discount so deeply if they think they might be able to sell rooms themselves (at full price). We'll suggest a strategy for whatever limits you choose, but i think you need to be more realistic in your bidding... do you have a back-up plan should you not succeed at current limits? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bluemoon10 Posted May 16, 2010 Author Report Posted May 16, 2010 thanks for the info on accessible rooms. you're right on the high occupancy vs bidding price... I might as well just give up, as looking at the actual hotels available in all NW DC there are very few, and only 4*+ at $400+ a night, or 3* and lower, for around $260, and the reviews mention they're small or not good.... so probably the name your own price would not be worth it this time around. so we do have a reservation for $260 at a 3* in dupont/woodley and called them yesterday and they guaranteed the accessible room for us... ideally we needed to stay max at $150, but at this point at least we have a hotel we know and we trust that will work. So we might give up this time, unless we see any availability at the wardman park and try to bid higher to get it there, so they don't have to change hotels on the 20th. let me know if you have any other suggestions, otherwise thanks for this great website and I'll keep using your PRICELINE link in the future!
