kyle604 Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 I'm looking for a decent hotel for under $200/night with tax (for 4*, $175 for 3.5*), preferably in the Manhattan area as this is my first trip in NYC.I have been bidding multiple times, up to $150 for 3.5* and $185 for 4* and still have no success. Is my target price range of $200 reasonable? From the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins, it looks like some have been successful with $170 for a 4*..Please help. Thanks.

kyle604 Posted May 13, 2010 Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 I have been including: ESB, MTE, MTW, and Time Square - Theatre for 4*s, adding areas that do not have 4* hotels for each bid.For 3.5*s - MTE, MTW, and Time Square - Theatre, and adding areas that do not have 3.5* hotels for each bid...Please shed some lights. Thanks.
kyle604 Posted May 13, 2010 Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 I have submitted bids up to $150 for 3.5* and $185 for 4*s, both before taxes and fees.
AaronJB Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Hotwire is showing 4*'s in MTE ($299), MTC ($299), TS ($349) and Downtown ($249), as well as ESB ($219, although a 50% recommended, which is definitely low.) Not sure if a 4* will be possible under $200 (although possibly in ESB), but a 3.5* seems much more likely under $200 - possibly in the $170-175 range.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 The $170 priceline win you're refering to is only for two nites of the five nite range you are bidding, and was also won over a month ago, so the dates are substantially (more than 50% different) and rates may have changed since that bid was won.A thread closer to your dates range is this Priceline NYC win for 6/8-6/14 which was won less than a week ago and encompasses your entire date range... this win was at $210 for a 3.5* (the user reports that a 4* bid at $250 was rejected, although it's not clear if $210 was the first bid at the 3.5* level)What is your maximum bid at each star level for this stay? kyle604 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Report Posted May 14, 2010 Thanks for the information. It's unfortunate that the rates have gone up so much over a month...So far, the cheapest rate I found online is $199 before tax for a 4* hotel (non-auction site), so I was hoping to get a slightly better deal thru priceline.I will keep on trying and post my winnings if I have better luck over the next few days.

kyle604 Posted May 15, 2010 Author Report Posted May 15, 2010 The offer was $199 for St Giles The Court and $209 for The Tuscany...expiring May 14....I saw it last night and was going to confirm with my travetmate, I was ready to book this morning to find that they've decided to pull the offer down early.....guess I should have jumped on it last night.....Back to the quest....
