zekedog Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Hello,I could use some help with a strategy. The areas I'm interested are listed in order of preference. Location is not that critical as my wife will be going off to Columbia University and the kids and I will do the touristy stuff and the Met. As we'll have two kids, it'd be nice to get a larger room, so at least we could make a nest for them on the floor. If $165 doesn't catch a 3.5*, rather than go bigger $$, I'd prefer to go to 3*.Cheers.
thereuare Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, and with many rooms in NYC being notoriously small, and a high percentage of rooms only having one bed we really don't recommend PRICELINE for more than double occupancy in NYC. While using PRICELINE for more than 2 people may be a calculated risk in a family-friendly area such as Orlando which is used to accommodating families and have a high percentage of rooms with 2 beds, NYC is the opposite scenario, and many rooms don't even have enough room for a rollaway should you be assigned a room with only one bed. As well, at some properties a room with 2 beds is considered an 'uprade' and even if a hotel is willing to work with you to give you a room with two beds, there could be an additional charge involved. It's up to you (and your family) if this is a risk you're willing to take, but HOTWIRE is often a better option in this scenario as they enable you to search for up to quad occupancy. HOTWIRE may cost a little more than PRICELINE, but at least your assured of sleeping accommodations for everyone in your family.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
zekedog Posted May 12, 2010 Author Report Posted May 12, 2010 Thanks for the welcome! The kids will be fine. They're young and it'll be like camping (that's the way I'll sell it :) )Cheers.

thereuare Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 I meant to post in the HOTWIRE area.Your post was merged with your existing thread since all posts for the same stay go in the same thread. As to whether you should bid higher for a 3.5* or lower your star rating to a 3* is something only you can really decide as you know your budget, expectations, needs, etc. for this stay best.HOTWIRE does have a 4* hotel in the ESB zone (Roger Williams??) for $189/nite and a 3* in the ESB zone for $169 (not yet identified)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
