bludnik Posted June 6, 2010 Author Report Posted June 6, 2010 a little update on my trip...had a fantastic stay at the Renaissance Zurich... The front office staff were really service oriented. I got a smoking room (they still have 'em!) and had a pretty decent safran risotto and ticino sausage dinner in the bistro for a reasonable price. one slight "minus" was that no less that 4 members of staff tried to upsell me to their Asian buffet that they had that day. By all means, I do love seeing real attempts at upselling (something 95% of businesses fail to do), but after I have made my choice of restaurant AND meal, please stop trying :)...and to my great surprise, they has english speaking tv channels (!!!) this is a point that is often overlooked by many hotels... In my experience, hotels all offer English channels, which means CNN, MSNBC, BBC News and Bloomberg. Allthough I do watch these channels on a daily basis, when I want to relax in my hotel room after a long day, I would like to watch some entertainment shows on TV. Normally this sends me to the desk and my laptop to view shows i have stored in my PVR at home, but here I could sit in the comfortable recliner and watch the shows on a normal TV. This might sound silly, but this is something I really appreciate. Mind you, the selection of tv channels was limited to a speckle of British iTV and BBC channels, but that was more than fine for me.I am a Marriott rewards member (allthough at base level) and the lovely lady checking me in did not only give me points for this stay, she also offered me access to the sauna and the jacuzzis free of charge because I was a member.I normally stay at the Novotel Zurich Airport, but I will be changing to the Renaissance now... Compared to the Novotel, they have almost the same location (both 8-9 mins by tram from ZRH), but the Renaissance has larger rooms, faster check-in, faster check-out, better tv channels, seem to appreciate loyalty card holders more (I am an a-club Gold member) and with the prices I get the rooms on Priceline, I am sold... On average i pay 130-140CHF per night at the Novotel. :)
AaronJB Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Very nice! Glad to hear you had a very good stay at this property.
