cabara Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 My brother, sister-in-law and teenage nephew will be visiting Jersey City and NYC. We've got them booked in the Hyatt Regency for 3/22 to 3/24 at $48 a night. So we're hoping for a strategy for the rest of the trip, namely 3/19 to 3/22.My brother used up all his possible bids, so now he's waiting the 72 hours. Would my sister-in-law be considered a different bidder? Should she bid now? Or should we just wait it out?Ideally, they'd like to be in the Hyatt Regency, but I live in the area (just north of where thereuare lives) and could help them change hotels. We'd love to keep the rate below $75 a night, but I think they would creep up to $100 a night if necessary. (Higher than that and they're bunking with me. YIKES!)Suggestions on bidding strategy would be most welcome!
cabara Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 Oh, I forgot to mention that he was rejected at $48 a night for the other nights of the stay -- bidding them individually.
thereuare Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Howdy neighbor! Funny how sometimes we need a global medium to meet those right around the corner from us! :) Just to clarify...He was rejected for:$48 ... 3/19$48 ... 3/20$48 ... 3/21(all bid individually)Is that correct? cabara Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 Yes. All were bid individually. I think he may have bid them as a group, too.
thereuare Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I'd recommend having him try bidding $55 for 3/20-3/22... he can stay with you for the 19th :) Actually, if/when successful for the above dates we'll Saturday the 19th separately, but at least have another 2 nites taken care of and only have one nite left to complete the stay. cabara Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Posted February 20, 2005 My brother waited the 72 hours and tried again just now.3/19 to 3/22 at $55 -- rejected3/20 to 3/22 at $55 -- rejected3/21 to 3/22 at $55 -- rejected3/19 to 3/21 at $55 -- rejected3/19 to 3/20 at $55 -- rejected3/18 to 3/22 at $55 -- rejected3/18 to 3/21 at $55 -- rejectedSo he's going to wait 72 hours and try again. Advice is welcome!P.S. Know any good places to buy an air mattress? :)
thereuare Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Rates have jumped (substantially) in the last 2 days. :)Still plenty of time, so i'd continue to try, but also book a cancellable back-up in the meantime as well! cabara Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Posted February 20, 2005 I'd love to have your suggestions for the best way to reserve a cancellable backup. Thanks.
cabara Posted February 24, 2005 Author Report Posted February 24, 2005 After failing at $55 a night, my brother opted to go the Hotwire route. He got a price of $189 a night for March 19 to 22. But when he made it March 18 to 22, he got a price of $71 a night. So he pounced on it.So even with the extra night, a stay that would have cost $1,095 if booked through the hotel will end up costing him a total of $380 plus tax. That's March 18 to 22 on Hotwire for $71 a night and March 22 to 24 on Priceline for $48 a night. A definite WIN no matter how you add it up!!!!!And all thanks to betterbidding.com!
thereuare Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Glad it all worked out well.If you hadn't planned on it, you should visit them at the hotel.. it's a nice property.Wish them a good stay from us.
