somanyturns Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Ok maybe this is too much but here is the story. I have been working on getting something in the first weekend in July in Quebec City for an age.Started at about $85 for a 4* and $75 for a 3.5*. Did multiple bids each day or second day. First Quebec 4* then 3.5*, log out,- then log in Quebec /Beauport 4* then 3.5*, log out/ Log in Quebec/ Sainte Foy 4* add Beauport 4* and finally go 3.5* . So I did 7 bids at each sitting.Anyway, bids more numerous than you can believe with a $1 increments going up over many days/weeks. Finally got a counter bid at $119 for a 4*. The usual for $22 more and you can have the room. I had another bid left so I came back $9 more with $128 total and got it. Two days ago I had the same scenario $22 more and you get the room. I went $ 7 up to $126 and was declined. That is why I went up $9. Guess the rooms are expensive and tight this time of year. I was concerned not to wait too long to get a room in Quebec City. May have been my weakness and cost me. Will watch the board and extend a challenge for others to do better. Best of luck.As an aside as a Fairmont privilege member I called for a reservation at their Quebec City hotel and they were sold out for the basic double/King rooms at well over $200 for the same dates. Checked the Delta 3.5* as well and it was running 169+. Web rates for this bid win hotel, the Le Concorde, are $169 - 45 days in advance no refunds or $209 for their best normal rate. So it's OK, I worked hard on this and had done my research. Quebec City seems way harder to get a deal than Montreal or Vancouver.
AaronJB Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Congratulations on your success. Persistence certainly paid off - nice deal for tough dates! :)Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
