Looking for the nicest hotel possible under $100 a night that will be kid friendly anywhere that safe public transit will connect with museums, zoos, aquariums and restaurants. I am very familiar with Chicago, but have always stayed in the North or NW suburbs. Thought I might see what I can get closer in. I will have a car, but if we drink in the evening I won't drive, so public transit is a plus. Any suggestions on a bidding strategy?

Few preliminaries to get out of the way...

It's not clear from your topic title... will you be 2adults/1child or 1adult/1child?

The NMA-River North zone will put you close to restaurants and nightlife, whereas the Lop zone will put you closer to the museum, aquarium, etc but gets quiet at nite after business hours. The two zones are not far from each other, and it's a moderate walk (15-20 minutes) or quick cab ride, but it's up to you as to which zone you would rather focus your attention. (i'm thinking the NMA area might be better since that is where you will more likely be "going out" at nite and better to be closer to your hotel at nite and traveling to other nearby neighborhoods during the day)

Your dates are not expensive so your budget should be fine, just let us know which zone(s) you'd like to pursue and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

On HOTWIRE for these dates, there's a 4* in the Mag Mile-Streeterville area on HOTWIRE w/fitness, business, restaurant, internet, spa for $79 and a 3.5* w/fitness, business, restaurant, internet, pool for $73. The 4* is likely the Hyatt, the 3.5* is likely the Doubletree; while not a 4*, the Doubletree is somewhat better in terms of location and is a bit more family-friendly. If this is the Doubletree (and I think it is), it's $174 regular rate for these dates.
