Priceline Hotel: 4* Chicago (NMA-River North) Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers

Hi,

First post on this very informative forum. I was looking for a hotel in River North - NMA, started bidding at $60 (rejected), then $65 (rejected), then $70 (accepted).

Newbie question one: Does your starting price affect the choice of hotel? In other words, is it possible that a given point in time, there are two or more 4* hotels in River North - NMA, each with different price acceptance thresholds? I would think so, but I would also be sad if I started with $100 and got the Sheraton right off the bat. Are there any strategies with respect to this possibility?

Newbie question two: What is the general strategy for increments? I used $5 because it is a nice, round figure, but maybe there are better ways.

Thanks for the information.

Also, I did use the PRICELINE link from this site.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to hear you have found the board to be helpful and that you're happy with the results... looks like a nice deal.

What bidding increments you use has a lot to do with how time there is before the stay and the amount you're bidding (i might use smaller increments if trying for a $35 hotel vs. a $75 hotel), but generally speaking I usually use $5 bidding increments as i find it strikes a good balance between cost and time... not going up too much too quickly and giving a decent chance at success over the previously rejected bid.

As far as your other question regarding more than one hotel available in the zone, i believe this thread goes into detail n the subject: Don't Bid Higher for a Specific Hotel

Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.
