snorkky Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Taking a crusie out of NY on the 19th and we want to stay in the City for a few nights before the cruise embarks. Would like to stay in the TS, HK, MTW, and EMPIRE areas. Would like to budget around $200.00 per night. What class hotel is reasonable for that money at that time of year and are there other areas we should include? Should I wait until later in the year to get the hotel? Any suggestions? All help greatly appreciated!
thereuare Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Which zones you ultimately bid depends upon what star level you're bidding, as there are some zones which are fine at the 4* level but perhaps not so fine at the 3.5* level.Typically this is an expensive time of year in NYC and at the moment i think you have a shot at a 3.5*... but would still be a bit of a stretch. I would try some lowball bidding for the next 6 weeks or so and then get a bit more serious near the beginning of the summer. snorkky Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 Thanks for the reply. We would like to stay in a 4* if possible. Any location near the center of town, such as Time Square, mid-town, etc. would be fine. Do you have a suggestion as to the area that is best for a 4*bid? Is there much of difference between 3.5* and 4* in NYC? Is $220.00 per night more realistic?Again, thanks for the help!
thereuare Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 At the 4* level, MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB usually work out well for the average visitor. Please look at the zone boundaries on PRICELINE (using this link) and confirm if you think all of these will work well for your plans... we'll then suggest a strategy for the zone(s) you're willing to accept. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know and we'll take it from there. snorkky Posted April 30, 2010 Author Report Posted April 30, 2010 First, great site, excellent help!Tried CPS, HK, MSG, MTW, and TS, working my way up to $200.00 for 4* hotels. So far no luck. Only zone I have avoided is MTE is because I am trying to stay closer to the pier. Also, I noted that you did not include HK, is there a reason for that?Again, thanks!

snorkky Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 After several nights of bidding I ended up with Club Quarters Midtown, 3.5*, for $220.00 per night. Best rate that I could find for this property was 299.99 per night so it looks like a good deal. Not familiar with this property but it has a great location and the reviews that I have read so far seem to be pretty good. It appears that this week in September is a premium week and all of the prices are high so all in all I am happy. To all, thanks for the help!
thereuare Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Congratulations on your success! This is the Fall, and just like the Spring, is a very busy time in NYC.Glad to see you're happy with the deal you received for this property and that this should work well for your plans.Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
