Priceline Hotel: help for (MTE) May 1st - 2nd

My friend is staying at W New York (lexington ave) so I'd like to stay somewhere close of course, minus the ridiculous prices offered. W hotel is sold out anyway. I tried bidding 4* MTE from $120 until $180 in $10 increments. ALL failed. Did not tried 3.5* once for $110 and failed.

Is there any mega event this Saturday? I find that HOTWIRE works best during last minute reservations but it looks like all the rooms are gone for some reason. Price now is even pricier than last year's shopping season.

The Tribeca Film Festival is going on...maybe that's the problem.

I may need a hotel there this weekend too. Ugh.

5 Boros Bike Race - 35,000 bicyclists on Sunday. I've been trying for a month to use Priceline to book a hotel and to no avail. I think I went as high as $190/night for a 4 or 3.5 star property. I finally booked the Doubletree Metro on Lexington for just under $200 earlier this week (at the hotel website of all places!!) but I think the rate has since gone up.

Also, I saw where someone posted earlier this week that they won on Priceline for Saturday night May 1st at the Grand Hyatt (MTE) for $125. I'm finding that difficult to believe.

Question? Does Priceline track your bidding and use it to decide whether or not you get a hotel at a certain price? For example, if I've previously bid up to $200 for a 4 star and subsquently a 4 star becomes available at $125 and I bid $125, do I automatically win that hotel or does Priceline hold back because they realize that my bidding history shows I'm willing to pay up to $200?

Priceline does not track your bidding in that manner - if cheaper inventory does become available, it can be won. If a hotel was won for a certain price for a certain date ($125) and that is not able to be won now, that inventory may no longer be available as the person bid far enough in advance.
