Hi, I saw that someone yesterday had his bid accepted for MTE 4* May 1st @ 120$ I keep bidding but for 2 rooms and I even increase to 135$ and it's not accepting. Could it be a lie?

I need from May 1st and may 2nd 2 rooms each night... is it worth to wait or no I should go with increasing until I get it now?

May 1st is in 4 days....

Probably not a good way to make friends on your first post :)

Possible explanations:

-their dates are different than your own, which can effect availability

-hotel was won weeks ago but only posted yesterday

-rates have changed since their purchase (yesterday or otherwise)

In fact if you go to the Grand Hyatt website and search for the nite of 5/1, you'll see that nite is sold-out, which makes the chances of receiving a win at this hotel very low. If you search your dates 5/1-5/3 they do have availability at $299/nite, but this still makes your bids less than half of prevailing rates, and knowing that the hotel is not available for a one nite stay with Saturday check-in, indicates high demand for these dates, making the chances of success at this property low.

Is MTE the only zone you're willing to accept? What is your maximum bid for this stay?

I just did a number of bids including this final one (I was getting tired of the rejections)

05/1/2010 05/2/2010

Midtown West, Midtown East, Central Park South, Downtown - SoHo - Financial District, Hell's Kitchen, Madison Square Garden - Convention Area, Empire State Building Area, Chelsea Area, Times Square - Theatre District

$120

3 stars minimum, 1 room

Well even that bid failed. You might have to go back to the drawing board broco.

Great and very useful website by the way.

Actually I am a very long time lurker and I finally decided to create an account. After reading this forum many times and doing many priceline bids, I think I passed my BetterBidding 101 class. It's just that sometimes I get lazy and do a hail mary bid when I get tired of doing the (smarter) multizone approach.

It really appears that all hotels room are booked this weekend in New York for some reason unknown to me...

I got it for 275$ on the saturday. I did the split bid for the saturday and sunday so, I paid 120$ for the same hotel on the sunday. I thougth I would get a better price if I was waiting last minute but it was worst since I see some people got the week-end for 175$/night while bidding earlier.

I bidded MTE, and SCP for a 4* and we got on both bid the Renaissance 57.

I'm still a fan of Priceline.
