LoriD Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 We got a 4 star, San Diego Coastal Resort on Priceline, Hilton San Diego Mission Bay Resort. We bid for 4 rooms (for a family celebration - Anniversaries: our 30th and my in laws 57th). Dates: Friday, April 23, 2010 and Saturday, April 24, 2010 (Checking out on Sunday).Bid history: We wanted the Paradise Point Resort (Priceline ranks as 3.5 stars, we happen to like it there...better than some 4 stars due to the property--secluded, BEAUTIFUL, lots of activities, VERY family oriented. Singles would like it, too......). We bid ONLY for 3.5 stars San Diego Coastal. Got back Hilton San Diego Mission Bay and Priceline says that they UPGRADED US. Yikes. Hilton is rated 4 stars on their site (a stretch, but ... OK. Older site that has been remodeled....). We called Priceline and argued that we didn't want to be upgraded (Paradise Point is the ONLY 3.5 star resort in that region...thought I had nailed it, but NEVER thought they would upgrade me. Darn !!! ). Of course, they referenced their 'policy' (who reads that!). So, we made the best of it. Got there and they upgraded us (all 4 rooms) from the 'tower' (need I say more?) to a Villa. I later had to add 1 room and bid $75 and got the same resort (whew!). Out of 5 rooms we left one 'as is' (Tower, as they had already checked-in) and then told the absolutely lovely and wonderful 'TC' at the front desk that we had 2 anniversaries. She upgraded ALL 4 of us: 4 got bay view Villas; we got a wonderful Villa with a fire pit. Needless to say that everyone came to our room for parties BOTH nights! We had a GREAT time, but as previous posts have said on various sites: Hilton gets you for EVERYTHING! 2 of our guests went to the exercise room and the treadmills 'wobbled' back and forth as they ran. Both said that it wasn't worth the $12 daily fee; we had dinner at 'Acqua' (for 14 people). Nice, OK, but DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY. They charged $32 for a bottle of Beringer White Zinfandel...about 5 times the retail value. Also, a big imposing 'bouncer' type guy watches you the entire time you eat, kinda 'mafia' like. He was also there at breakfast (we complained about dinner, and got 6 continental breakfast passes..otherwise, we would have never gone back to that restaurant). Also, as many have said before, $25 per car per night parking! Wow. Our in laws actually were passengers in our car and we told the front desk that they did not have a car, but they still got charged $25 per night for parking (they reversed this later). All in all, OK place to visit; TC was AMAZING and WONDERFUL. Hilton should be ashamed for charging for parking and for jacking up the prices of everything.
