Tourist007 Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I need some help on Geneva Hotel, need it for two nights 7/8-7/9.The hotel which i see most people get is NH Geneva AIrport, lot of people on TripAdvisor complain about the commute from the hotel to City. There is no 5* for bidding . Are there any good 3* hotels which i might get if i bid for 3*.Thanks
Romelle Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Regarding the commute, you know yourself better than anyone else does. I happen to think trains and other public transport are fun, a way to see interesting people and a bit of the countryside and/or city. Others REALLY don't like them. I see the airport is within the only bidding area for Geneva, and airport hotels sometimes run less expensive than city-center hotels, so the scale is probably tipped toward getting an airport hotel. As to what hotel you might get via bidding, take a look on the retail side of PRICELINE. There isn't a perfect correlation between what is offered on the retail side and the bidding side, but it is at least indicative. Romelle
MadFlyer Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 These one zone cities are complicated. A 3 star option may just as well land you out by the Airport. The NH Rex has come up occasionally as 3 star. It is 10 minutes outside city centre with the tram. I have stayed very frequently at the NH Geneva Airport. I have won some great deals in the past, but it has become more difficult in recent months to win at a decent price, but still quite good in relation to rates in this pricey market. The shuttles run with great frequency. They only run until 23:30 if I recall but are scheduled without call every 15 minutes in rush hours and every 30 minutes other times. From the airport they run just from outside baggage claim and have perfect location. That becomes the problem for trips into the city. While they pass the train station and expo area, they only stop at their stop, meaning you have about a 7 minute walk back to the trains. Trains leave frequently from the station and all trains hit geneva, meaning you always just take the next departure to the city. I would think you are looking at over $80-85 to win this far in advance. I used to be able to easily win for $55 at last minute, but no luck recently.
Tourist007 Posted April 28, 2010 Author Report Posted April 28, 2010 Thanks for your reply. I was more concerned on getting into the city. Is there any public transportation nearby which i can use instead of the hotel shuttle. as i have only two days in Geneva.
MadFlyer Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 The shuttle to train is a quick and convenient option into the city, but you can walk about 10 minutes to bus or tram stops. The hotel is not exceptionally convenient for a tourist visit, but managable. put Av. De Mategnin, 21, the address of the hotel into the search line of this site. http://map.search.ch/meyrin/av.de-mategnin...rkehr,bar,hotelhttp://map.search.chyou can change it to english with EN on top row. This will show all bus and tram routes amongh other things. you can then put the tram or bus stop name into the www.sbb.ch site and search to anywhere for all transport options.
Tourist007 Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 Thanks this info is very Helpful.
