PL Questions

I will be traveling with my wife and 9 year old daughter to Amsterdam. I am looking for a 5* hotel in Amsterdam 7/24/10 - 8/2/10. I would like to be closest to Centraal Station since I/we will travel to Haarlem most days to wacth my son play soccer. My three questions are:

1. Is there a way to ensure that we will have a room to accomodate three people? It seems that PL will guarantee accomodations for two.

2. In an effort to narrow down the possible hotels that I might be offered, I did a hotel search without NYOP. I got a list eight hotels within the Central / Museum Quarter areas. Is it fair to say that the NYOP hotels will be from that list of eight or might there be others?

3. From reading other posts here, it seems that after I bid, there will ususally be a counter offer or a rejection. Is there any time where your initial bid is accepted? If so, are you then obligated to take it?

Oddly enough, when I search hotels, I can break down the area between Central and Museum but when I do NYOP, it has the two sections combined.

Thanks in advance for the replies. This is a great site.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

1. Is there a way to ensure that we will have a room to accomodate three people? It seems that PL will guarantee accomodations for two.
No, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy... after that it is at the discretion of the hotel, and more than double occupancy can often be hard to come by in a 'standard' room in Europe.

HOTWIRE may be a better option as their service allows you to search for up to quad occupancy.

2. In an effort to narrow down the possible hotels that I might be offered, I did a hotel search without NYOP. I got a list eight hotels within the Central / Museum Quarter areas. Is it fair to say that the NYOP hotels will be from that list of eight or might there be others?
The "retail" and "bidding" sections of the PRICELINE site each use a different universe of hotels, so you're not assured that any hotel you see on the 'retail' section of their site is one of the hotels you will receive if your bid is accepted... there are some hotels which only participate in the retail section and not the bidding section, and vice-versa. For additional information on this subject see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.
3. From reading other posts here, it seems that after I bid, there will ususally be a counter offer or a rejection. Is there any time where your initial bid is accepted? If so, are you then obligated to take it?
Your initial bid can be accepted, and counter-offers are not always received. Once your bid is accepted you're provided with the name of the hotel and you 'own' the hotel... no cancellations, changes, refunds, etc.
Oddly enough, when I search hotels, I can break down the area between Central and Museum but when I do NYOP, it has the two sections combined.
Just as the two arms of the PRICELINE service us a different universe of hotels, they also use different zone names and boundaries.
