dliberty
Hi!We are looking for a 3.5* (or higher of course :) ) hotel in NYC Times Square or Midtown West area between July 14 to July 22 (8 nights total). What would be a good bid to start with? We can also be a little bit flexible on the check-out day (+/- a day) and perhaps nearby areas (such as Central Park South or Midtown East) if that can make a difference.Of course any other tips would be greatly appreciated :)Thanks in advance!!Dan Link to comment

dliberty
About $150 per night. Link to comment
thereuare
Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* or is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better in this zone? (once we know this i'll also have a few comments/questions regarding zones)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dliberty
The least expensive 3.5* or better.Btw, we've been to the Belvedere which is "only" 2.5* but was great. The only problem is most other hotels in this star category aren't very good (afaik) and I assume there is no strategy to bid on this specific hotel... Link to comment
llh58
Somebody just won the Belvedere throught HOTWIRE for $162 per night, Hotwire lists it as a 3 star..... Link to comment
dliberty
Good to know. However it's a bit expensive for us (and only $20 less than Expedia). Perhaps with Priceline we have a chance for a better bargain? Link to comment
thereuare
The Hotwire Win at the Belvedere is for an entirely different set of dates than the stay in this thread, so availability and pricing for that set of dates really isn't particularly relevant to this stay, imo.At the 3.5* you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTW...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* TS...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* TS and MTW...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125After taxes and fees, this will just about bring you to your stated $150 budget.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. dliberty
Thanks. Do you think we can get a better deal (if for example our offer of $100 isn't excepted) if we bid closer to the travel date? Link to comment
AaronJB
There is no way to know if prices will lower closer to your dates. Rates have been on the upturn for the Spring period in recent weeks, and if traffic continues to come in above expectations, then Summer prices may start turning upwards, as well. Waiting until the last minute is a bet, and there is a definite risk - especially in NYC - that you could be stuck without a reasonably priced option if rates suddenly ramp up for any reason (event, traffic, etc.)Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. thereuare
I wouldn't expect the sub-$100 bids to be accepted, but included it to see if there was any 'low hanging fruit' to be had... i wouldn't be holding out for something that low, it was just worth a try since you had the re-bids available. As well, you're only bidding two zones, so there really aren't that many hotels available to accept your offer. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. dliberty
Well, I bid all the way up to $120 with no success. Will keep trying. Also checking out Hotwire once in a while. I'm using the site links of course, and thank you very much for your assistance, the site is great (especially the new Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins). Link to comment
