franklin411 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 So I dunno if I was smart or stupid for bidding this early, but I'm going to the American Historical Association convention in January 2011, so I thought I'd scope things out on Hotwire. I saw that the Hilton Financial District was going for $89/night, so I bid $70/night for a 4* in the Quincy Market zone. Failed.Added Copely, for $70, failed.Started a new bid and dropped down to 3.5* for $65 in the Copely zone (was going for the Sheraton), failed.Added Quincy Market and raised to $70, won the Club Quarters. So we'll see if I was smart or stupid for bidding this early. I scored huge when I won the Sheraton for $95/night during the Boston Marathon because I bid early (everyone else I met paid double that or had to stay in the suburbs), but this is the dead of winter. Whatever...the room is bought and paid for now!Just checked Orbitz...they have the room for $99/night, so I guess this is just an OK win. Plus there's no option for a double bed arrangement at this hotel. Hmm...I'm kinda unhappy that this place is even considered a hotel. Looks more like a glorified Motel 6! And the rooms are tiny! :)
franklin411 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 OK, ya I got owned on this one. I was surprised that a hotel with such tiny rooms (the standard bed is a twin!!!) could be considered 3.5* in a town like Boston, so I looked it up on AAA. They give it 3*...and I could have booked it there for $79 with a cancelable reservation.Sigh.
thereuare Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Thank you for sharing your results with the board.Sorry to hear the savings weren't much on this one at the moment, but due to the convention perhaps we'll see rates for these dates jump between now and your stay. While you're somewhat disappointed in the outcome, hopefully at least the location will work well for your needs.Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
