I was looking for hotels in downtown Chicago (Magnificent Mile and Loop areas). Started bidding for 4* hotels at $40. Bid up to $60 in $5 increments using re-bid zones Lincoln Park and Evanston. No acceptance. Moved down to 3.5* hotels, again starting at $40 for Magnificent Mile. Added Loop, bid $45. Added Lincoln Park, bid $50 and accepted by Ambassador East. It's just at the north end of the River North-NMA zone, so a bit of a walk to downtown, but crazy cheap. Before discovering Priceline, I used to stay at a hostel when going to Chicago, and that is 20 bucks more (and a lot further out).

Congratulations on your success. :)

Great deal for this property! This is a bit of a walk to the Mag Mile area, but there's a red line station a couple of blocks away which makes for an easy trip to the Loop. To the North though, it's an easy walk (10-15 minutes) to the Lincoln Park area.

This is an interesting, historic property that was a huge destination for celebs for many years (there is a wall of signed photos in the lobby, some of the suites are named for the celebs who have stayed there) and it's in a residential area (the restaurants/nightlife of the Gold Coast area is just a couple of blocks South.) The hotel was recently bought out and is going to be redone later this year and turned into a boutique.
