chocoholic_chick Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 I've been bidding the last few days, starting at $120 and working my way up to as high as $155. I still have zero success for the weekend of 05/21/10 to 05/24/10. Should I try to split the bid (i.e. bid for just Friday night and try to sneak in the rest of the weekend)?
thereuare Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 If you were to split the more likely division would be Friday-Sunday and then Sunday-Monday, however, not sure that you'll be successful with this route either...HOTWIRE shows no 5* hotels in the North Strip zone when searching for your complete stay, so PRICELINE may not have availability either. Searching for just the weekend a 5* hotel in the North Strip zone appears but it's nearly $300/nite.If you want a 5* hotel, is the South Strip zone acceptable? What about the Trump in the North Strip Vicinity zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. chocoholic_chick Posted April 22, 2010 Author Report Posted April 22, 2010 South Strip is a bit far from where we plan to spend all of our nights. What is a 5* in South Strip? Is that THEhotel at Mandalay? I want to be directly on the strip, so Trump is a no go. Early this morning, I put in another bid for $120 and was offered a 5* at $176. I decided to re-bid and my offer didn't get accepted. Now I am beginning to regret not taking that offer. I would have thought the long weekend would have been harder to bid for and turns out I am wrong yet again. Boo.Anyway, I will keep trying and will keep updating everyone.
thereuare Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Are you using all of your re-bid zones when bidding at the 5* level? (as you can use them to still bid higher towards the $176 counter-offer you received)Was the $176 counter-offer when you bidding for the complete stay? How high are you willing to bid for a 5* in the North Strip zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. chocoholic_chick Posted April 23, 2010 Author Report Posted April 23, 2010 Yes, I am using all of my re-bid zones when bidding at the 5* level. The $176 counter-offer was for the entire stay. I have also noticed that in the past 36 hours, the "average" nightly charge that Priceline quotes for 5* hotels has ranged from $235 - $259. I got that $176 counter-offer when Priceline was showing an average rate of $235. I will try again in the morning to see if it works. As far as highest price, I really don't want to pay more than $150/night.
thereuare Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 Ignore the average retail rate shown by PRICELINE.Let us know how your next round of bidding goes and/or if you need help with a bidding strategy. Please remember to use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding.Good luck.
