ieatchickens Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 I will be traveling to Manhattan on June 4th and looking to book 2 rooms for the nights of 6/4 and 6/5. I've been lurking here and some better deals but it seems having 4 in a room limits my choices to Hotwire. I found a 3* in Mid Town central for $176+tax.Can I do better? Does anyone have any suggestions to find a better deal or does my quad occupancy hurt my chances?TIA
AaronJB Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Are you looking for 4 adults or 2 adults/2 children? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ieatchickens Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 Thanks for the quick reply Aaron! There will be two adults and two teenagers in each room.
AaronJB Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Happy to help! :)Let me see what else I can find - be back momentarily.
AaronJB Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 If you are looking for 4 in one room:Quad occupancy is a tough one in NYC - the 3* MTC listing in question would likely be the Holiday Inn Midtown, although the HI Midtown is $196.20 via Orbitz for 2 beds, plus coupon code FABSAVE10 takes 10% off, making for about the same price as the HOTWIRE listing. There is also a 3* in the Chelsea-MSG area for $193 w/Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business (likely the HI Express Madison Square Garden). While more expensive, the added breakfast is a nice value. The other idea that I have is the Omni Berkshire, a 4* in MTE on Orbitz for $201 when searching for 2. Coupon code orbitzdeal5 takes an extra 5% off = $191 and change.Overall, it is difficult to get a lower price than $179 for 4 in one room, but there are some other options for quad occupancy that may be of interest at somewhat higher ratesPlease use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Orbitz.com links to start your purchases and searches.
AaronJB Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 In terms of searching for 2 separate rooms, you could use PRICELINE. Additionally, when searching HOTWIRE for 2 rooms (2 rooms, 2 adults, 2 children), there is a 3* MTC for $109 w/breakfast/internet/business (which would likely be the Holiday Inn Express 5th Ave.) Different listings do appear when searching for 2 rooms versus 4 in 1.Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ieatchickens Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 That $109 3* MTC doesn't show up on my searches on HOTWIRE. Is this for double occupancy by chance?
ieatchickens Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 OKI see what you are saying now. Book 4 rooms with 2 in each room vs 2 rooms with 4.
AaronJB Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Oh, I'm sorry - I was confused - are you a party of 8 in all?
ieatchickens Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 Yes. Total of 8.I can get 3 double occupancy rooms for about $60 cheaper than 2 rooms with quad occupancy at a 3* MTC hotel. Is there any chance I can get one of the rooms with 2 double when I check in? (my guess is no)
thereuare Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 All that PRICELINE guarantees is double occupancy... HOTWIRE guarantees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search.Any thing more than double occupancy (with PRICELINE) or for more than your including on your HOTWIRE search, or specific room configuration with either, would be up to the hotel at time of check-in... they may not be willing, or able, to accommodate any requests for a room with specific bed configuration.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ieatchickens Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 Well I will either go with 2 rooms with quad occupancy or 4 rooms with double occupancy for both nights. I was limiting myself with 3* properties but I might rethink going to a 2* hotel to save some money. Right now I am looking at TS area but I see on Hotwire that there are some decent deals in the Chelsea/Madison Square Garden area. How safe is it to travel at night from TS to Chelsea? There will be 4 women traveling after a broadway play back to the hotel. Are the subways safe or shoudl they hail cab?
thereuare Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Walking should be fine but i usually advise out of town visitors to avoid the subway after 11pm or so (typically not a problem, but why take a chance of getting on the wrong subway and ending up someplace you didn't intend at that hour). However, i'd even forgo walking and just take a taxi... should be less than $10 and between 4 people it's even cheaper than the subway. ieatchickens Posted April 23, 2010 Author Report Posted April 23, 2010 UPDATE:This hotel and price disappeared on HOTWIRE so I am mow concentrating on 3* in TS, MTW and MSG areas. I post on what I find
